Emunah Happenings

Join us for our annual celebration of Shavuot starting on Tuesday, May 30 , with dinner, honoring graduates and teachers, and our tikkun leyl - all night learning! There will be delicious food and dairy desserts, outdoor sunrise shaharit services, and two tracks of learning, one for adults and a second for teens. Teachers include Rabbi Bernard Eisenman, Rabbi David Lerner, Rabbi Michael Fel, Me'ir Sherer, Barbara Neustadt, Beni Summers, and more. We also welcome back Jeremiah Kissel who will present "Page to Stage - The Torah and Theater" at midnight!

RSVP HERE for the dinner and for the all-night learning. Please note that children in grades 6 and below must be accompanied by an adult chaperone. 

Experience the wonder of Shavuot and celebrate the giving of  The Ten Commandments with Shelley Rossman & Rabbi Michael Fel on Thursday, June 1st at 11:00 AM.

Everyone is welcome on the 2nd day of Shavuot for an interactive, kid-friendly service of songs, prayers, stories, and a Torah march!  Examine the beauty of  an unrolled Torah scroll and enjoy dairy delights. Families are welcome to stay for our community Kiddush lunch and to play on our playground after the  service!  This program is FREE and no RSVP is necessary.

Now that the weather is nice, how about taking some Hebrew classes with friends? There are opportunities with Ivrit LaKol in both Lexington and in Newton this summer!

Temple Emunah Refugee Action:  Help Ascentria, a local organization that resettles Unaccompanied Refugee Minors from 24 countries. Please bring everyday goods these teenagers need to Temple Emunah by May 30. You may leave your donations of toiletries, laundry supplies, back to school supplies, discount store gift cards or international calling cards in one of the donation boxes, located in the Temple Emunah office and the aula.   Click HERE for more information. 

ALSO, don't forget to donate your old laptop and other items for Minor Refugees:  Is your old laptop computer still around the house, maybe serving as a door stop?  Does your employer not know what to do with retired laptops when they last upgraded?  Donate them to the Temple Emunah Refugee Action Laptops-for-Refugees drive, and help unaccompanied minor refugee college and high school students. Join Temple Emunah and Isaiah members in Israel this June! Linna Ettinger, Marcy Lidman, Terri Swartz Russell, Guy Weyl and more will be studying at the Community Leadership Program Summer Retreat of the Shalom Hartman Institute.  Participants join senior Shalom Hartman Institute scholars in Jerusalem to explore foundational Jewish ideas and central dilemmas of contemporary Jewish life.

Hebrew College Prayer Leading InstituteJoin Hebrew College for this unique opportunity to hone your teaching, musical, and prayer leading skills. Classes meet June 6 - July 28. Taught by world-renowned faculty!

Learn Hebrew this Summer - Either on-line or on-campus!   If you’ve always wanted to learn Hebrew but haven’t been able to find a class that fits your busy schedule, then take a course this summer at Hebrew College. On-campus or online, you’ll find experienced teachers who are native Hebrew speakers, who will be devoted to you and your fellow classmates, and who will help you to steadily advance your skills. HIAS Vigil to Honor the victims of the St. Louis incident: On Tuesday, June 6 at 6:00 PM, Jewish communities across the country will hold candlelight vigils to commemorate the anniversary of the day that the MS St. Louis began its fateful return journey to Europe. In 1939, the U.S. government denied safety to the hundreds of Jewish refugees on board. In 2017, our community will stand together to call on our elected officials not to make the same mistake again by denying safe haven to today’s victims of violence and persecution. The local vigil will be held in Brookline, in front of the Pierce Building (corner of Beacon and Harvard Streets).
