Stella Maris Academy

Commissioned by the Catholic Church,
the Stella Maris Academy community prepares lifelong learners who lead, love, and serve as Jesus taught -
transforming our world one student at a time.

Mission Moment

A special Mass was held on May 17th at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary. The Blue Mass honored police officers, fire fighters, and EMT personnel as a part of National Police Week. This celebration was offered in praise and thanksgiving for those in the Duluth community who serve and protect. Bishop Sirba led the Mass.

National Police Week was established in 1962 by Congress and President John F. Kennedy. It pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. There are family members from all campuses and parishes who serve in law enforcement and public safety. The event was initiated by Holy Rosary parent Mrs. Sonya Morris.

After the Mass, Bishop Sirba conducted a blessing of the emergency vehicles. Students formed a tunnel for the honorees that led the way to a reception following the Mass.  Read news coverage here
And the Winner is ... Sentinels!

Sentinels! Today the students of Stella Maris Academy voted on their choice for mascot. They overwhelmingly voted for the Stella Maris Sentinels as a representation of their school and spirit.

The name implies defenders, or guardians, of the Catholic faith and our Blessed Mother. As with the Stella Maris school name, it is also tied to how the Virgin Mary intercedes for us as a guide and protector. A wonderful choice by our students!

The selection was not taken lightly with a large amount of thoughtful discussion behind the decision. Thank you to all who participated throughout the process with initial nominations and  especially to all of the teachers and staff who presented the mascot concepts for voting, and used this as a moment of faith-filled education.

Go Sentinels!
Uniform Policy Decision for 2017-2018

All current uniform attire including spiritwear will be continued next year. Optional items as well as updated spiritwear will be added and shared with families in the summer packet.

The school uniform reflects the spirit of Stella Maris Academy by fostering an environment that supports the pursuit of academic excellence and the spiritual, moral, and social growth of the students. The school uniform serves to unify the student body, and is an outward expression of the mission of Stella Maris Academy.
Year End Special Celebrations Planned

We are celebrating all that our schools have been and looking forward to all that the new Stella Maris Academy can be! All four campuses - St. Michael's, Holy Rosary, St. James and St. John's - are participating in a series of year-end activities acknowledging the transition as the school year ends in June and the new Stella Maris Academy opens its doors in September.

Activities and events include a time capsule contribution from each class, a recognition certificate for each student, a stepping stone and/or planting on each site in honor of where the schools have come from and how we are moving forward. Finally, all campuses will share a common prayer recited at the last school Mass. We are all Stella Maris!
