A project resulting from collaboration between FAU, University of Southern California and University of Kansas students and faculty has received a
2017 American Institute of Architects Florida Award of Merit for Unbuilt Design. FAU's School of Architecture, Center for Environmental Studies, the School of Urban and Regional Planning, and the School of Engineering participated in the effort.
Primary Investigator Jeffrey E. Huber, (AIA, NCARB, LEED AP), Assistant Professor of FAU's School of Architecture, spoke about their design submission "Salty Urbanism," resulting from the Florida Sea Grant project
ADAPT: Adaptation Design and Planning Tool for Urban Areas in the Coastal Zone. "The City of Fort Lauderdale commissioned us to imagine innovative adaptation plans for North Beach Village, which has been experiencing "blue-sky flooding" when seasonal high tides flood streets with salt water. Plans for urban design which deliver ecological and social value to a community, and may possibly be replicated in other communities, are in demand."
