YEA! Commencement
Twenty four middle and high school students from Collin and Denton County received CEO status on May 23, 2017, at the 2017 Frisco Chamber of Commerce Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) Commencement.

After months of hard work, this year's Frisco Chamber of Commerce President and CEO, Tony Felkerawarded the class their diplomas, alongside the program's directors, Kevin Thompson, Keith Britton, Brett Larson, Alan Mesches, and Peter Burns.

"This is a very unique program, where kids can actually launch real businesses or social movements," said Kevin Thompson, Program Instructor. This year's enterprises range from SIINNO, a safety and technology industry company dedicated to creating technological devices that can help blind and visually impaired individuals travel safely to Untangled, a company that creates and sells disposable hair pads that remove hair from your hairbrush after you use it.

The Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) is a groundbreaking nine-month program that guides students in grades 6-12 through the process of starting a real business, including business plan development, pitching to an investor panel, obtaining funding, launching the venture, managing media campaigns, e-commerce and web development, sales events, and trade shows. Students, ages 11 to 18, are taught to recognize the power of their ideas, and to develop the skills necessary to turn those ideas into meaningful enterprises. Applications for the 2017-2018 YEA! Program can be found HERE.

Trustees Name Dr. Mike Waldrip Lone Finalist for Superintendent Position
Frisco ISD trustees named Dr. Mike Waldrip lone finalist for the District's superintendent vacancy in a specially called meeting. Dr. Waldrip, current superintendent of Coppell ISD, is expected to assume the duties of FISD superintendent sometime after a state-mandated 21-day waiting period.

Dr. Waldrip succeeds Dr. Jeremy Lyon, who is set to retire in June after more than four years as FISD superintendent and 31 years in public education. The selection of Dr. Waldrip as lone finalist concludes a two-month search for Dr. Lyon's replacement. With the assistance of Jenny Preston Consulting, the Board garnered public input from community members as well as FISD staff to develop a wish list of qualities the District desired in a new superintendent.  During the almost 60-day process, applications were received from across the country.  Read More...
