Vail Realtors® Weekly Update is a free member resource sent each week with the latest VBR News!
From the Desk of Mark Bergman Association Executive

Last week representatives of your leadership (Eileen Duke, Jill Moneypenny, Julie Retzlaff & Amy Dorsey) along with Patty Sandoval (MLS) and I participated in the NAR Mid-Year Legislative Meetings. We attended NAR committee meetings and Capital Hill visits for grassroots lobbying. Issues such as renewal of the 1031 Exchange, Mortgage Interest Deduction, Flood Insurance and the impacts of tax reform were the consistent topics of discussion and advocacy. Read more here about the initial results.

I was part of a small delegation invited to attend a meeting at the F.A.A. (Federal Aviation Administration). The topic was drones and their use in real estate. The message from the senior staff, including the Director of the Unmanned Aircraft Division is that drones offer tremendous benefits to real estate, but we need to be very careful about understanding the rules so we minimize liability. Keeping this very simple; anyone using a drone for "gain", even if they do not charge, must possess a "107 certificate" from the F.A.A.. You as the listing broker taking aerial photos of a listing are included in this regulation. If you or a seller hire a drone operator you are advised to ask that pilot if he possesses 1) the "107 certificate" and 2) insurance. The fines for violation can be very significant and it only takes one upset neighbor to get you in trouble...even here in our rural location. Take a look at this for more comprehensive information: Read More
