A MESSAGE FROM LEW BLEIWEIS, A.A.E., AVL EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Welcome, Elite Airways!
One of the great pleasures I have as executive director at Asheville Regional Airport is working with our airline partners who provide the air service that connects our region to the globe.  And it is a special day that I get to welcome a new airline to our airport and region, and today was one of those days!

This morning, I was joined by Greater Asheville Regional Airport Authority Board Member and CVB Executive Director Stephanie Brown to welcome the inaugural nonstop flight from Vero Beach on Elite Airways, our newest airline partner.  We celebrated with a traditional water cannon salute, a ceremonial ribbon cutting, but best of all - we personally welcomed members of the Elite Airways team and Vero Beach Regional Airport and community to our region.

Elite Airways now connects Asheville Regional Airport to the Treasure Coast of Florida, with easy nonstop flights.  Vero Beach Regional Airport is convenient not only to Vero Beach, but also Fort Pierce, West Palm Beach, Jupiter and Wellington to the south, and Melbourne, Cape Canaveral and Orlando to the north.

I encourage you to learn more and book a flight at www.eliteairways.com.  I also look forward to welcoming more visitors to our region.
SHORT-TERM PARKING REMINDER
Note that short-term parking rates increase after four hours of use
This is a friendly reminder to pay attention to the various parking rates for each lot at the airport before you leave your car for an extended period of time.

Specifically, our short-term lot, which is intended for short-term use (1-4 hours), has a very different rate structure than the other three public lots.  Each half hour in the short-term lot is $1; after four hours of use in the short-term lot, we have a flat $25 daily rate.  This rate structure is meant to encourage short-duration use of this lot, so we have ample space available for those who only need to be at the airport for 1-4 hours.

We have three other lots available for longer-term use (for our travelers), ranging in price from $6 - $8 per 24 hours (and the seventh contiguous day is free!).

$18.2 MILLION GRANT AWARDED
Funds will be used to complete the new runway project
The Greater Asheville Regional Airport Authority has been awarded an $18.2 million discretionary grant by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The Federal Aviation Administration will allocate the funds, which will be used to complete the airport's new runway project.

"Maintaining a modernized hub of transportation is critical for our region and business community, so I'm excited to hear of this new development," said U.S. Rep. Mark Meadows. "I'm confident that these additional grant funds will go a long way in allowing our local transportation officials to serve our region to the best of their ability. I want to particularly recognize and thank my friend and A.A.E. executive director, Lew Bleiweis, for his tireless efforts on behalf of the Asheville Airport."

The airfield redevelopment project at AVL has been a priority of the FAA to improve the airport's infrastructure and ensure that the runway system meets construction standards. The grant is another step toward the completion of the project.

"We are pleased that our elected officials understand the infrastructure needs at Asheville Regional Airport, and that they have advocated for the discretionary grant funding," said Lew Bleiweis, executive director. "I would like to extend recognition to Senators Richard Burr and Thom Tillis, as well as Congressmen Mark Meadows and Patrick McHenry for their leadership. The airfield project is the most significant construction project our airport has undertaken since the airport opened in 1961, and will ensure our ability to serve the aviation needs of Western North Carolina for decades to come."
IT'S A REGIONAL THING
Regional Airlines provide significant air service
Do you ever pay close attention to the writing next to the door when boarding an aircraft? While you booked on Delta, American, or United, you'll see things like "operated by PSA" or "operated by ExpressJet" painted near the nose of many flights you take. These flights are operated by regional airlines. Regional airlines have been around since the dawn of commercial air service and continue to be a large and vital part of the airline industry, including here at AVL.
