A Message from the Executive Director

As a new semester begins, we are proud to announce the expansion of our EPIC team to include Dr. Michelle Nevett, our Health and Social Innovation Research Associate. Dr. Nevett has a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Windsor and has been teaching part-time in the Nursing Faculty at St. Clair.  We are also pleased that Sebastian Agosta will consult with us on marketing strategy and social media outreach .

It's been quite calm on campus during exams, but at EPICentre we have been running full-tilt.  Our Summer RBC EPIC Founders Program received 50 applications, of which 25 were selected to pitch, and 12 were ultimately selected for the 12 week intensive venture development program.  We'd like to thank judges Sandra Vasquez, Puneet Mathur from  RBC and Gerry Simpson, our Entrepreneur in Residence, for dedicating their time to this important program.

We've just returned from our first EPICentre alumni events in Toronto.  The Odette School of Business and the Faculty of Law partnered with us to make them a great success. You'll find our more in this issue. We're already planning for our next EPIC alumni event in Windsor, so mark the date Thursday, September 21, 2017!

On the research side, we've been busy. I was fortunate to present a research paper with Dr. Gerry Kerr at the Strategic Management Society meeting in Milan, Italy in April. The paper examines the motivations and career changes from paid to unpaid work by successful tech entrepreneurs. As part of our University of Windsor Golden Jubilee Speaker Series in Entrepreneurship, we invited Dr. Matthew Gibson, Director of Educational Programs, Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Michigan to present to the Odette faculty in April. Upcoming research projects include various studies involving succession planning in financial services and youth and immigrants.

EPICentre hosted two alumni events in Toronto this past weekend.  On Thursday, April 27,  the MBA/JD Student Society, EPICentre, the Odette School of Business, and the University of Windsor Faculty of Law held an inaugural MBA/JD Alumni Celebration. This was followed with an Enterprising Alumni Networking Breakfast on the morning of Friday, April 28th.

EPICentre at Toronto's Digifest

COMMUNITY NEWS

Cross-border Health Foundation and WIN join forces to impact health systems in Canada and the U.S.

The  Cross-Border Health Foundation  (CBH) in Arlington, VA, and the  World Health Innovation Network  (WIN) at the University of Windsor's Odette School of Business joined forces to advance healthcare in Canada and the United States.

"Partnering with CBH gives us an extraordinary opportunity to work together with industry, government, and health organizations to accelerate formal cross-border collaboration that will advance health policy and innovation in our respective health systems," says Dr. Snowdon, Academic Chair of WIN. "By leveraging the close relationships between Canada and the United States to share knowledge and expertise, we can advance health system performance, strengthen our economies, and improve health outcomes for patients in North America and globally."
