Your tax dollars at work: A weekly update on bond/override/construction
activity at SUSD schools. Check out what we're up to this week.
Scottsdale Unified School District | Bond Update 5/19/17

Thank you for signing up for weekly updates on bond & override projects within SUSD. We are committed to transparency through this process, and we welcome your feedback. Like you, we can't wait to see our new schools go up and our existing schools improve.
MEET THE HOHOKAM TEAM!
Community Meeting Reminder!

The community is invited to attend a meeting Monday, May 22, from 6:00-7:00 PM in the Hohokam cafeteria.

The architect and contractors will show the very first design and construction plans for the Hohokam rebuild. This is a great opportunity to ask questions and provide input. We hope to see you there!

WEEKLY PROGRESS

On Tuesday, May 16,  Hopi Elementary hosted a community meeting for parents, teachers and neighbors to view designs and ask questions about campus construction. Some of the questions raised at the meeting will be added to the FAQ section we are building on bond.susd.org. Neighbors shared concerns about how traffic will be controlled at the intersection of Calle Del Medio & Rubicon (a new school entrance point). Based on the feedback, that issue is now under review.

On Thursday, May 18,
The Governing Board approved the next step in the process of building new tracks & fields at Saguaro, Chaparral and Coronado. Construction fences will go up Monday, May 21.

Also this week, the design team for Pima took a close look at the campus and found a way to  keep existing ball fields and lighting intact, so community baseball partnerships will be undisturbed by construction. Play ball!

Coming soon, Pima  will be next to host a community meeting and form a rebuild committee. For the most up-to-date information, be sure to check our website regularly.

RUMOR OF THE WEEK ( or: Myth Busting)

There is a misconception that it's too late to give input on school designs due to construction schedules. Please know that all schedules are tentative. At Hopi, for example, the original "shovels in the ground" date was June 1. It is now tentatively set for July 1, in part due to changes made after the Hopi rebuild committee provided input.

There is also a concern that some schools are getting a lot of input while others are not. ALL schools slated for rebuilds will have committees and community meetings to ask questions and provide input, as promised. The construction projects are being phased about six months apart, and community input is being sought in order of project. ( Hopi, for example, is first in the timeline and therefore has provided the most input so far.)
Thank you for your dedication to our Scottsdale students and schools!
