Bayside Trail Hike at the Cabrillo Monument
This month's adventure will be at the Cabrillo National Monument, which commemorates the landing of Juan Rodriquez Cabrillo at San Diego Bay in 1542.
THE PLAN:
We will meet at 8:00 a.m. at Better Buzz Coffee in Point Loma
1480 Rosecrans Street, San Diego, 92106
- From there, we will carpool to the Cabrillo National Monument (please remember to bring your senior National Park Pass) and walk around the National Cemetery.
- Then, we will hike the easy 2 mile Bayside Trail, which features spectacular views of San Diego Bay and the downtown skyline along with possible sightings of migrating gray whales.
- Next, we will explore the Old Point Loma Lighthouse as well as various World War II defense bunkers. Those who are interested can also visit the visitors center which features exhibits on early San Diego history as well as viewing of various educational movies.
Directions: From Interstate 5 or Interstate 8, take the Rosecrans Boulevard exit. Proceed southwest on Rosecrans to Better Buzz Coffee - Point Loma
