Tree Distributions- Improving our Cities, One Yard at a Time
Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped us distribute roughly 250 trees to St. Louis Park residents this month. Every year, this project is made possible through a partnership with the City of St. Louis Park. Since 2009, this partnership has added more than 2,100 trees to the yards of St. Louis Park!
The Minneapolis Tree Distribution is right around the corner! Postcards for tree purchasers will be mailed out soon.  With help from  the City of Minneapolis' subsidies,  Minneapolis residents purchased nearly 1,200 trees this spring.

Distributing all of those trees is impossible without the help of volunteers from the community! We are is still seeking volunteers to help residents pick up and load their new trees later in the month!
*North Minneapolis homeowners can still register to receive  a tree through our North Minneapolis Free Trees program, which takes place in the fall. Click here to learn more.
Learning with Trees in May
This month, Tree Trust will be planting trees with four elementary and middle schools as part of our Learning with Trees program.

The Learning with Trees program has partnered with more than 190 schools throughout Minnesota since 1992. Tree Trust staff work closely with partner schools to create Green Teams of teachers, administrators, grounds maintenance staff,  city staff and community members. Teams meet throughout the school year to set goals, develop a landscape plan to meet the schools' environmental and educational objectives, and plan for each school's planting day.

On planting day, students, teachers, parent and community volunteers, and Tree Trust staff dig holes, plant trees and shrubs, and mulch and water their new trees. Some schools will also install benches and other features in their new outdoor classroom.

This year, Tree Trust is partnering with North Trail Elementary, Lake Marion Elementary, Raven Stream Elementary, and Brooklyn Middle STEAM School.
Help Make this Summer a Success for Teens
TK and his first crew in 2013

This summer, 250 youth will be employed working on challenging outdoor landscape construction projects throughout the metro, guided by crew leaders! T.K. joined Tree Trust five years ago as a summer crew leader. Now, he is the General Site Manager for our summer program. Below, he shares a little about his experience as a summer crew leader.

"I started with the summer program back in 2013. My crew and I built four different timber staircases at Lone Lake Park in Minnetonka that summer. Being a summer crew leader was fantastic management experience. If you can get 16 young people to complete a park improvement project, you are well ahead of the curve in possessing the skills to work with other people no matter what your future career paths are!

Summer staff receive a sense of pride for the work that they do. The effect a crew leader can have on a participant is no small thing- it has the power to positively steer lives.  At the end of each summer, we hold award ceremonies to celebrate the achievements and success of the many youth in our program. It was during this award ceremony, as I watched youth after youth being recognized for their hard work and success, that I was overcome with a sense of pride and gratitude for being able to be a part of such a program. I knew then that the summer had been a success. "

We're still hiring summer crew leaders, but there are only a few spots left! Learn more about the job and benefits, and apply, by visiting our website.
