A Message from your
2017 KS SHRM State Conference Chair

Tami Seaman

Dear KS SHRM Members,

Let's begin our 2017 conference news by thanking the 2016 KS SHRM Director, Trinidad Galdean, Conference Co-Chairs, Kristin Nulik and Lisa Starr, Volunteer Conference Committee, and our extraordinary sponsors for presenting a fantastic conference in Wichita, Kan.

It is going to be a challenge; however, the 2017 KS SHRM State Conference Committee is preparing an even bigger and better show in Overland Park, Kan. Register now for the biggest and best People Management / Human Resources / Business Conference in the state of Kansas in 2017. The big show takes place on September 20, 21 and 22, 2017.

Sponsors and Exhibitors, The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has more than 280,000 members working for more than 100,000 organizations with 2,200 People Management / Human Resources / Business Leaders from 13 SHRM affiliated chapters in the great state of Kansas. Many of the attendees are seeking the coveted continuing education credits needed to support their Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) and Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certifications. Now is the time to register as a sponsor or exhibitor.

Attendees, how about a personal challenge? This year, I am challenging attendees to leave with at least 10 new contacts. Leave your comfort zone and challenge yourself to meet at least three new people at every event. Maybe, even sit in a different part of the room for every breakout session. Just think, in three days, you will have added at least ten more fabulous people to your network. Overachievers, you can add 30 new contacts, easy! We have added a social event for additional networking. Register now!

We are partnering with the Olathe Chamber to add a networking luncheon on September 21, tell your boss and peers to save the date. More information is available below for the Dayton Moore networking luncheon.

I look forward to seeing you at the 2017 KS SHRM State Conference!

Thank you for your support of KS SHRM!

Tami H. Seaman, SHRM-SCP, SPHR

Conference Keynote
Dayton Moore
General Manager, Kansas City Royals

Dayton Moore begins his 11th full season with the Kansas City Royals, being named Senior Vice President - Baseball Operations/General Manager on May 30, 2006. He officially assumed his duties, becoming the sixth general manager in franchise history, on June 8, 2006.

A leader in the Kansas City community, as well as a native of Wichita, Kan., Moore is a regular speaker at numerous community events each year.  In September, Dayton Moore is excited to "Play Ball with HR" as the Thursday BBQ lunch keynote for the 2017 KS SHRM State Conference, in addition to participating in a meet & greet immediately following in the Exhibit Hall. Register today to join the fun!

And if you have any teammates that aren't attending the conference, but would like to hear Dayton Moore speak while enjoying some Kansas City BBQ, they may register separately here. NOTE: This separate registration is only for non-conference attendees and only applies to this lunch. The Dayton Moore lunch is automatically included in Conference attendee registration.

Pre-Conference Workshop
Effectively Managing Change & Conflict in the Workplace - Amy Leslie, Perspective Consulting, Inc.
Leading people through change and managing (or better yet, preventing) conflict in the workplace, are some of the most important skills we can master. This workshop will give leaders insight into their own behavioral drives and personality. They will learn how their own personalities influence which leadership tactics they lean into when managing and influencing others. Participants will learn steps to effective change management, while considering how different personalities view and approach change, and what they need to feel comfortable with the process. Participants will also learn situational leadership tactics for managing various types of conflicts, while not forgetting about the "human element" of the parties involved. Ideally, participants will learn how to create an objective language and culture of understanding throughout their organization that lends itself to fewer conflicts. Learn how to prevent some conflict that bubbles up because of misunderstandings or personality differences.

This workshop is an interactive, hands-on workshop, which combines presentations, group discussions, activities and case studies, and includes a personalized assessment. To be a part of this 3-hour pre-conference workshop, simply add it to your conference registration (additional $60 charge will be applied to your conference fee). Lunch and assessment included in fee.
