PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE - MAY 2017

Dear members,

Our desert abounds with activities and April certainly is full of things to do!  From Coachella Fest, to Stagecoach and the numerous charity events happening - I hope you got some time to rest!

There are a few film shoots happening in town, as well, and thanks to PSWIFT several members are working on and in it, including yours truly!!  The Producers were thrilled to find there was a chapter here - and with so many available crew, cast and production help - they are talking about doing more projects here.  This is just the kind of message we want to send!

We have a healthy relationship building with SAG-AFTRA and much gratitude goes out to Ilyanne Morden Kichaven and Jane Austin for arranging this get together.  Many thanks to all the SAG members and PSWIFT members who showed up for this meet n' greet!  Special thanks to Lulu California Bistro as well!!

Our favorite part of the year is when we get to give out our Scholarships and this was no exception!!  This year we were able to award DIGICOM with $2,000;  The DATA program at Cat City High with $1,500 and $1000 to the Palm Springs Cultural Center, which you will be hearing more and more from in the near future!!

We are working on exciting programs, rebuilding our website and reaching out further into the film and television community to build our organization- and we sincerely thank you for rolling up your sleeves and joining in!!!

See you in June!

Sincerely,

Leanna Bonamici
May Mixer Huge Success!
PSWIFT/SAG-AFTRA Event

Thank you to our sponsors SAG-AFTRA and Riverside Country Film Commission for a very successful event at Lulu California Bistro this past Tuesday!  This was a joint mixer to gain knowledge about our collective members regionally, increase membership and work opportunities, while building a strong working relationship within the industry.  We had over 50 members in attendance!  The evening also highlighted PSWIFT scholarships given to DIGICOM, The DATA program at Cathedral City High and Palm Springs Cultural Center.

SAG-AFTRA representatives Ilyanne Morden Kichaven, Jane Austin and Ellen Crawford also had an opportunity to visit area attractions and studios in and around Palm Springs for potential filming in the future.  Thank you to Saguaro Palm Springs for hosting these ladies!  Visit our website to see more pictures from the evening at www.PSWIFT.org.

BookPALS News

Cielo Vista Charter School in Palm Springs presented BookPALS with the Community Partner Award on March 26, 2017 at the Carl Lykken Estate.  Tere Britton, Director of the program was there to receive  the award. Pictured along with her are Cielo Vista co-principals, Jennifer Geyer & Devlinn Clinton.

Elementary school children throughout the valley each week eagerly await the arrival of volunteers from Coachella Valley BookPALS (Performing Artists for Literacy in Schools) who share the joy of books by reading aloud to them. The 50 volunteers--who are actors, retired teachers and others--introduce the wonderful world of reading by reading a wide range of books from illustrated picture books to the classics of children's literature.
