Emily Had CASA By Her Side

Emily, 13, was confused and frightened in foster care. She was in a new home and a new school and was unsure what her future might hold. But with CASA volunteer Kimberly by her side, Emily was able to find what she wanted and needed - a family to call her own.

Thank You for 20 Years,
Larry Dolan

For 20 years, Larry Dolan has been advocating for abused and neglected children in Dallas as a CASA volunteer. From drug-exposed babies to neglected preschoolers, from angry elementary kids to confused teens aging out of foster care, Larry opens his heart to every child, giving them one constant adult to lean on while they navigate courts, protective care and foster homes. Larry never wants attention or accolades, but more than 100 children have benefited  from his dedication, care and concern as they wait decisions about where they should safely and permanently live. He is Dallas CASA's longest-serving current volunteer.

You might have seen Larry in the courtroom at the Henry Wade Juvenile Justice Center. Maybe you saw him observing a visit at Child Protective Services. Or maybe you saw him on Channel 8 after one of the children he advocated for came back to Dallas CASA as an adult to volunteer.

"We're grateful for volunteers like Larry, who bring not only compassion but also incredible experience and wisdom to our most vulnerable children," said Kathleen LaValle, executive director and president of Dallas CASA. "He's always there, putting kids first, serving as an example and resource to new advocates and always available to take on the toughest cases. He exemplifies what it means to be an advocate for children."
Dallas CASA Classic Raises Record-Breaking $2 Million

The Dallas CASA Classic netted a record-breaking $2 million for Dallas CASA April 24. The 20th year of the invitational golf tournament was co-hosted by  AT&T, Goldman Sachs and Pioneer Natural Resources at Brookhaven Country Club and the Four Seasons Resort & Club Dallas. Over the 20 years of the tournament, the event has raised $16.2 million and allowed Dallas CASA to grow from serving 407 children in 1998 to serving 2,768 in 2016. "This tournament has brought hope and support directly to thousands of Dallas-area children living in protective care because it's not safe at home," said Dallas CASA's Executive Director and President Kathleen LaValle.

Northwood Woman's Club Selects Dallas CASA as Grant Recipient

For the tenth time since 2000, Northwood Woman's Club has awarded Dallas CASA a grant that will allow us to recruit additional volunteers and increase the number of children we can serve. In 2016, we were able to provide a caring adult for three out of five children navigating the  foster system, and with ongoing support from groups like Northwood Woman's Club we move ever closer to our goal of serving every child in need.  Since the civic organization was founded in 1968, Northwood Woman's Club has donated millions of dollars to Dallas-area charities. The club was recognized with Dallas CASA's Cherish the Children Award in 2014 for its tireless financial and volunteer support of Dallas CASA. Through critical funding and volunteer support, members have also helped grow Dallas' National Adoption Day into an event that truly celebrates forever families and their support of Parade of Playhouses helps raise awareness of Dallas CASA's critical mission.  Thank you again, Northwood Woman's Club !
Child Abuse Prevention Month

Dallas CASA and other Dallas-area child welfare stakeholders observed Child Abuse Prevention Month with an event April 7. With WFAA meteorologist Colleen Coyle emceeing, Dallas City Council member Jennifer Staubach Gates delivered the key note speech. Dallas County Commissioner Dr. Elba Garcia read the resolution offered by Dallas County Commissioner Theresa Daniel proclaiming April as Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month in Dallas County. The 24 Dallas children who died due to abuse or neglect during 2016 were honored as their names were read aloud and a moment of silence was observed by the audience of nearly 400. That evening, downtown Dallas was lit up blue for child abuse awareness and prevention.
