May 2, 2017
Dear Archway Friends and Families,

It was so wonderful seeing all of the new faces at our New Family Orientation.  It was a great turnout and I hope you found the presentation helpful.  This communication will focus on some of the ite ms touched on at the presentation that needed further clarification and will be beneficial to returning families as it includes information about the PSO, uniforms, and information on tutoring.

With devotion,

Joy Hanks - Headmaster

Upcoming PSO Event
The ANP PSO is having their annual Board selection meeting on Friday, May 5th at 8:30 am.  The meeting will be held in the cafeteria on the south end of campus and all new and returning families are encouraged to attend.  Come and find out what changes are being made to the PSO and how you can get involved in this fantastic community building support group.

Archway Readiness Registration
As discussed at New Family Orientation, it is highly recommended that your children attend the Archway Readiness program for new ANP students entering 1st - 6th grade.  There has been some confusion as to whether or not there is availability in the classes, and I can assure you that there IS availability each week in all grade levels.  Please go to www.greatheartsamerica.org and click on "summer academy" under the Campus Life tabClick on the Archway Scottsdale - register linkClick on Scottsdale Summer Academy.  At this point, you will be asked to set up an account.  Once you set up the account, you should be able to list your student's information and choose the class (es) you want.  The Archway Readiness classes are in the morning each week from 9:30 am - 1:00 pm.  Choose what classes you prefer, and opt out ("no thanks") of those that you don't.

If you have any trouble with your registration, please contact Maureen Mure at [email protected] or Wendy Hood at [email protected] and they will be happy to assist you with registration.

I apologize on behalf of the summer academy program for those of you who have found it difficult thus far.  Every effort has been made to streamline the process.  Thank you for your patience
Archway Readiness Materials
Several families asked if it was possible to p urchase the materials that are being used for the Archway Readiness program without attending the class.  It is highly encouraged that you take the class as it will be much more beneficial to your child, however, if you are not able to and would like to purchase the materials, you may do so.  We will provide the grade level packages the last week of school (May 22nd - 26th) to those families who have pre-paid for the consumable packages.  Please click HERE  to place your request and pay for the materials.  There is a $50 charge for the materials for each grade level.  Please contact Ms. Hanks at [email protected] with questions
Make Up Assessments for Families that Missed New Family Orientation
Families who were not able to bring their students to the New Family Orientation to participate in the skills assessment are invited to bring their child to a make-up day scheduled for the morning of May 13th, 8:30 - 10:30am.  We strongly encourage you to have your child attend this as it will help us in determining if there are any areas that need specific focus over the summer months in preparation for their transition to ANP.  Please RSVP if you plan to bring your student at this time.  Only students who RSVP will be allowed to participate at this time.  Please contact Mr. Fee at [email protected]   with questions.
Follow-up to Assessment of Students
There were many questions surrounding the purpose of the student assessments that were given on Saturday.  Each grade level did a few brief assessments in the areas of math and language arts, including but not limited to math facts, reading fluency, parts of speech, handwriting, spelling and sent ence formation.  The purpose was not to ability group students in any way, but rather to help us as administrators and teachers identify students who may need some extra attention over the summer or at the beginning of the school year.  If there were any noted concerns, we will contact parents to schedule a time to discuss the concerns prior to the end of the school year in May.
A Note on Tutoring

ANP offers tutoring to students by invitation only beginning in the middle of Quarter 1.  Students who are invited to tutoring are those students who show significant struggle in the areas of math and language arts.  Tutoring in the subjects of history and science is not common.  Teacher directed tutoring is provided twice a week after school for approximately 45 minutes at no charge to the parents.  Students may roll on or roll off of tutoring per the direction of the teacher.  ANP has on staff several teachers and teacher apprentices who provide tutoring services outside of the school day.  This list is available on the ANP website throughout the school year and parents are welcome to contact them for availability and pricing information.  We currently have a list of teachers who are available for summer tutoring.  Click HERE for this information.  Please contact Mrs. Sneed at [email protected] with questions about tutoring.
