Dear Parents,

This Saturday, May 13th, the students in Grade 3 will be receiving the Sacrament of First Holy Communion. This is an important time in their lives as Catholics. Jesus said, " I am the bread that came down from Heaven, whoever eats this bread will live forever." (Jn 6:51)

Jesus gave Himself to us in the consecrated host and precious blood.  To receive the ordinary bread and wine when it is consecrated is  receiving Jesus into our body and our soul. This is a very beautiful and personal time for our children.

The Eucharist is, for Catholics, both a meal and a sacrifice. The Lord gave us the Eucharist at the Last Supper because He wanted us to share in the life of the Trinity, the loving communion of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
In the Eucharist we are nourished spiritually and brought closer to God each time that we receive Him in this Sacrament.

I ask that you keep our third grade students in your prayers as they come together on Saturday to receive Jesus for the first time.

Quote from Pope Francis:

"The Eucharist is Jesus who gives himself entirely to us."

Faithfully yours,

Miss Giaquinto
