Welcome from the National Executive Director
The last few weeks have had a meaningful influence on the education sector, with University funding model announcements detailing an increase in tuition fees for degrees and changes to the repayment of loans for graduates; the announcement of Gonski 2.0 and the new 'needs-based' funding model for schools, as well as the delivery of the 2017 Federal Budget on Tuesday evening.

No matter how these Federal government announcements play out in your own workplace environment and impact on your ability to deliver educative outcomes, you can be assured that ACHPER will be advocating on your behalf for quality Health and Physical Education and sport delivery in the Australian Curriculum with a whole-of-school approach.

BLOG: Assessing students' Fundamental Movement Skills with Kahoots
Are you utilising Kahoots in your teaching practice? For those that are not familiar, a Kahoot is "a fun learning game....made from a series of multiple choice questions" - basically an interactive multiple choice pop quiz.

Rachel McCann from Maths 'N' Movement shares how you can make Kahoots physical so your students' assessments are fun and active. A popular presentation from a practicing teacher at the recent 2017 ACHPER International Conference in Canberra to support a cross curriculum approach.

ASIA-PACIFIC JOURNAL OF HEALTH, SPORT & PHYSICAL EDUCATION: The 2017 Fritz Duras Memorial Lecture
A habitually active environment is a feature of past times, and in stark contrast with that experienced by our children today. Consequently, twenty-first century PE assumes a position of great responsibility. This is especially true in primary schools; a premise recently strongly supported by published evidence from the Australian LOOK randomised controlled trial.

The manuscript of Professor Dick Telford's Fritz Duras Memorial Lecture delivered at the 2017 ACHPER International Conference in Canberra is now available online and provides a clear case to show policy makers & principals to advocate for quality HPE.

BLOG: Does bad weather affect student performance in school?
An increase in extreme and unpredictable weather events in Australia continues to occur, which often disrupts students' attendance at school.

So are students losing out from school closures? Brendon Hyndman from Southern Cross University talks about why it is important for schools to cater for these situations and provide spacious, well equipped indoor school spaces to ensure kids can still take part in physical education and recess time activities.
