One alumni class had 100% of MSS students on their high school honor roll...any guesses?

April 2017

What a pleasure it was to attend the HSA's Party with a Purpose on March 25th! The event, held at The Links in Gettysburg, was a great gathering of alumni, parents, faculty, grandparents and other supporters of MSS. I was happy to have the opportunity to see and visit with so many familiar faces and to meet new people as well. It was a very lively group and clearly everyone enjoyed themselves as we gathered to support MSS. Thanks to all who made such a wonderful evening possible!

Enjoy reading about all of the exciting MSS alumni news below and we hope to see you at one of the events coming up soon!

I wish you all a joyful and blessed Easter!

Alumni Achievements

Our recent grads continue to rack up honors and awards and it's so nice to be able to share with you their achievements.  Congratulations to these alumni and please let us know if you have any news to share.
MSS Class of 2015 at Catoctin High School

Our young alums continue to shine. Here's an outstanding piece of news:  100% of the Class of 2015 attending Catoctin High School made the Honor Roll for the fall!  (That's 11 MSS students!) Many of these students are in honors and AP classes, making their accomplishment that much more impressive.

Congratulations to Isabella Alley, Hannah Buckman, Haleigh Bowling, Adrianna Bussey, Hannah Hartness, Christina Kong, Jack Malachowski, Tara O'Donnell, Annabelle Perry, Alexander Wivell and Issiah Wivell.
Brendan McCormick  '13

Brendan McCormick  (MSS Class of 2013) recently participated in the 2017 JROTC National Services Championship for Sporter Shooters in Alabama. Brendan took first place at the Robert Ennes Memorial Match! Brendan is a senior at Linganore High School.

Alex Dumm and Anna Eyler  '13

St. John's Catholic Prep recently instituted the Pillar Awards, designed to recognize outstanding students in five distinct areas of achievement. Two MSS alums are among the five inaugural recipients of these awards.  Alex Dumm  (MSS Class of 2013) received the Pillar Award for Leadership, while  Anna Eyler  (MSS Class of 2013) received the Pillar Award for Service. Congratulations, Alex and Anna!

Haleigh Bowling and Hannah Hartness '15

Girl Scouts Haleigh Bowling and Hannah Hartness, both MSS Class of 2015, collected school supplies during the annual Girl Scout Thinking Day. In the photo, they are shown with Sr. Brenda, Principal, and Sr. Joan, Vice-Principal, presenting the school supplies which will go to a Daughters of Charity mission in Kenya.

Haleigh and Hannah are members of Girl Scout troop #81758. This group, which began at MSS, continues to stay together and recently visited Disney World.

Below, members of MSS '15 Troop #81758 Haleigh Bowling, Emily Longenecker, Tara O'Donnell, and Adrianna Bussey pose in front of the Disney castle. (Katie Adams and Hannah Hartness were unable to go.)

Anna Eyler '13

And speaking of Girl Scouts,  Anna Eyler (MSS Class of 2013) has earned her Gold Award. This prestigious award is the highest  honor a Girl Scout can achieve. For her Gold Project, Anna  coordinated the building of hop trellises at St. John's Catholic Prep (SJCP.) These 12-foot  trellises will support a hops crop that will be cultivated and  harvested by the SJCP Environmental Stewardship Class, and then donated after harvesting to SJCP neighbor and collaborator, Flying Dog Brewery, to be used in a specially brewed ale.

Anna was also presented with the President's Volunteer Service Award by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), a federal agency working with local partners to tap into the ingenuity and can-do spirit of Americans to tackle some of the pressing challenges our country faces. The President's Volunteer Service Award honors and thanks those volunteers who demonstrate a commitment to service, by volunteering more than 100 hours in a year, and inspiring others to volunteer.
Don Marshall '61

Congratulations to Diana Marshall Wright and husband Josh Wright on the birth of their daughter. Diana is the daughter of Don Marshall (MSS Class of 1961). Baby Lucy (Lucille Adelaide) was born on January 14, 2017, and weighed in at 7 pounds, 6 ounces. I personally think she's completely adorable!
