The New Horizons for Seniors Program provides funding for projects led or inspired by seniors. Organizations are invited to apply for funding for projects that promote positive aging and empower seniors to initiate and participate in activities that benefit the community. Eligible organizations can receive up to $25,000 in project funding. 

Projects must address one or more of the following five program objectives:

• promoting volunteerism among seniors and other generations;
• engaging seniors in the community through the mentoring of others;
• expanding awareness of elder abuse, including financial abuse;
• supporting the social participation and inclusion of seniors; and
• providing capital assistance for new and existing community projects and/or programs for seniors

The Call for Proposals is now open and will close June 23, 2017.

The Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards recognize Albertans whose volunteer efforts have contributed to the well-being of their community and fellow community members. Six awards, two in each category of youth, adult and senior are presented annually. Nominate an outstanding volunteer for a Stars of Alberta Volunteer Award by September 15.

For the 11th summer, Edmonton Transit is running the Seniors on the Go program. The program is designed to educate seniors on the variety of accessible and age-friendly features ETS offers. ETS reaches out to seniors residences and centres throughout Edmonton and partners with local destinations such as Edmonton Public Library, shopping centres, and attractions such as the Muttart Conservatory to take groups on fun outings while following local transit routes.

In addition to a trip aboard a chartered bus, participants will learn about senior's fares, trip planning tools, transit safety and accessible features such as ramps and low-floor buses. The topic will be considered from both caregiver and facility perspectives: issues related to the impacts of variable consent and diminished capacity, negotiating affection and intimacy, and the limits of containing behaviour in group living environments will be addressed.

Tailoring fundraising strategies to the distinct giving preferences of different generations can reap big results. Join this informative webinar to get insights into the differing mindsets of today's donors and the best ways to reach each different age groups. You'll learn:

The presentation by representatives from the Primary Care Network will cover the grieving process and different coping strategies to help manage and move past grief.
