Mobile: Maryland School Bus Safety Inspection System Keeping Our Children Safe
Every school day, 500,000 school buses in Maryland transport more than 25 million students to and from school. The system offers automated scheduling of bus inspections for local jurisdictions, the Board of Education and private schools and allows inspectors to complete the inspection process digitally. After each inspection, results are electronically submitted to the MVA that either the bus passed the inspection or a repair order was created and issued to the bus owner. The system uses a tablet-first approach to allow inspectors to use mobile devices that create efficiencies during the inspection process. Authorized MVA staff can access the inspection data to track and report on all bus inspections conducted throughout the state.
This free system replaces a manual paper based inspection process and was developed, is maintained and enhanced at no cost to the MVA, local jurisdictions, the Board of Education or private schools. The system creates a more efficient inspection process, reducing the time it takes to fill out inspection reports by 50% while improving safety of school buses operated in the State of Maryland.
