Angels Among Us: "Known by the Light"
Scripture: Matthew 2:1-12
The visit of the Magi pays homage to the child on which the star has shown. It is light that leads them to him and when he is found, they are filled with joy. We too are ones who are awesomely and wonderfully made by the hand of God. Therefore, we are called to be a joyful people who are known by the light that shines forth.

Feliciano-Llanos, and Isaac Johnson. This project is in honor of Tom and Cheryl Rose's grandson Tommy Miller.
The Second Saturday Church Workday scheduled for January 13th has been canceled due to a memorial service. Mark your calendars for our next Workday on February 10th from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon.

New Peace Staff Member - Dani Sherwood
|
 We are excited to welcome new Peace staff member Dani Sherwood. She will be a Ministry Assistant, functioning in a part-time support role for the Praise Team Director, Student Ministry and Peace social media communications. Dani is an alumni of our youth program, a former member of the youth counselor volunteer team and is passionate about serving Christ. Please give her a warm Peace welcome!

Theme: As we discover the depth of who Jesus is, we are called to claim these same characteristics as our own.
After the celebration of the birth of Jesus, we move into a season of hearing the stories of people discovering and recognizing the identity of Jesus. In the time from Epiphany to the beginning of Lent, we too will discover the depth of who Jesus is, and by extension who we are called to be as his followers. How are we known as followers? What identifies us in such a way that others see an unmistakable likeness in us?

New Griefshare Class Starts - January 11
|
 Griefshare is a 13-week support group open to anyone who is dealing with the death of a loved one. It's a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life's most difficult experiences. You'll gain access to valuable resources to help you recover from your loss and look forward to rebuilding your life. You don't have to go through the grieving process alone. Our next class session will begin on

Life Line Screening Event at Peace - January 11
|
 Life Line Screening, a leading provider of community-based preventive health screenings, is pleased to offer a preventive health event at Peace on January 11
th
, 2018. Five screenings will be offered that scan for potential health problems related to: blocked arteries which is a leading cause of stroke; abdominal aortic aneurysms which can lead to a ruptured aorta; hardening of the arteries in the legs which is a strong predictor of heart disease; atrial fibrillation or irregular heart beat which is closely tied to stroke risk; and a bone density screening, for men and women. Register for a Wellness Package which includes 4 vascular tests and osteoporosis screening from $149 ($139 with our Peace member discount). All five screenings take 60-90 minutes to complete.

Peace Youth Confirmation Classes Begin - January 14
|
Confirmation is a 9 week experience where you'll learn what it means to commit your life to follow Christ; what it is to call yourself a United Methodist and the importance of becoming a member of the Peace United Methodist Church family. All Youth in 8th grade are welcome to join. If you did not take the class and are now in high school please contact us. Classes start on January 14
th
and culminate with Confirmation Sunday on March 11
th
. Classes will typically last one hour each Sunday from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
The first session is for parents, students and mentors to learn about the Confirmation journey and will be held on Sunday, January 14th at 11:00 a.m. in the Youth Room.

Thank-A-Teacher Community Event - January 19
|
 Be part of our effort to love and appreciate the teachers and administrative staff of our local elementary and middle schools. Our goal is to encourage and support those who are dedicated to teaching and serving the children of our community. We'll be hosting our Thank-a-Teacher event on
Friday, January 19th from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
where we'll provide free items to stock classrooms, hand/neck massages, raffle prizes, prayer and a free meal to take home. We'll need volunteers to set up and break down, help with prayers and handing out food, and hospitality (sign up on the back table or email the church office). We are collecting donations of the following items: hand sanitizer, pens & pencils, highlighters & dry erase markers, to-do lists, post-it notes, glue sticks, general art supplies, cleaning wipes, copier paper and small boxes of tissue. These may be dropped off in the bin in the sanctuary entry hallway or the Church Office.

FREE "Joy" Workshop at Peace - January 20
|
As humans, we often use the term "joy" as a synonym for happiness. But as a "fruit" of the Spirit, (Galatians 5: 22-24) true Joy is awakened in us as we grow in the image of our Lord Jesus. In his experiential workshop "Awakening the Joy Within", Tom Acey presents a practical guide to us to direct us in our daily lives to live a joyful life. An experienced facilitator and workshop creator, Tom has presented the Joy Workshop here at Peace several times over the past few years. He will be presenting a "new and vastly improved" workshop here on

5th Annual Divas & Dudes 5K Run/Walk for Youth Missions

--Peace Youth will be hosting our FIFTH ANNUAL
Divas and Dudes 5K
in Hunter's Creek as a fundraiser for our summer mission trips.
Volunteers are needed NOW to help coordinate this exciting event.
