New Year...a time of renewal and change
First Church News & Updates - January 5, 2018
Epiphany
2018...the new year came in with a blast of cold weather!  It is nice to see above freezing temps again.

Saturday is the day of Epiphany.  In The United Methodist Church and many other Western traditions, Epiphany marks the arrival of the Magi from the East who bring worship and gifts of devotion to the Christ Child, revealing his divinity. Read more about Epiphany in this interesting article from United Methodist Women.

A new year is a good time to reflect on what is working well and what could be improved. To that end, we invite you to take a survey to let us know what you think about the weekly

Thanks and Happy New Year!

Words from Will...
Returning Home
It has been a pleasure for Tina and me to enjoy time with my mom and dad in North Carolina during the past week. It was even a little colder there than it was in Central Texas. We ended up staying an extra day because our flights were cancelled due to snow and ice. We enjoyed worship on New Year's Eve

Dr. Will Cotton
morning with an outstanding sermon, lots of favorite meals (lasagna, clam chowder, fish, and even some chili cheese hot dogs), bowling (my parents out-bowled me), watching TV, and about 3 1/2 inches of snow (with no local capabilities for treating the roads). Most of all, we enjoyed time sharing stories and further treasuring and deepening our love for each other.

I was raised in Western Pennsylvania. Then my parents moved to New Jersey for 30 years. Now they live on the North Carolina/South Carolina border. It's interesting how, no matter where the location is, we find ourselves at home there. Now we are watching our children and a grandchild discover the same. It's not the place that primarily makes a home, it's the relationships and shared love.

So this afternoon, we board the plane and come home to you. Thanks for being the amazing family of faith that you are to Tina and me. Sunday morning, we will share in a very unique service of Communion and Reaffirmation of Baptism. I hope you will be there and invite someone to enjoy this wonderful celebration of God's love. It will be a great way to begin your 2018.

Sincerely in Christ,
Will Cotton Signature
