All of Northern Virginia is part of the Chesapeake Bay watershed, from the Potomac River to the Rappahannock, and from farm and forest land to urban and developed areas. NVCT is committed to making the connection between conserved land and the health of the watershed and the Chesapeake Bay.

Volunteer for Clean the Bay in Alexandria, June 3
 Join the City of Alexandria and NVCT to help clean up Four Mile Run Park on Saturday, June 3, 9 to 11 a.m. This event is one of many
Clean the Bay events throughout the watershed, and altogether the impact is huge. Since 1989, Clean the Bay day has engaged more than 146,000 volunteers who have removed approximately 6.4 million pounds of debris from nearly 6,900 miles of shoreline in Virginia. That has a big impact on the bay and all the rivers and streams that feed into it.

 Back to the Bay at Mason Neck State Park, June 10
A family-friendly day of displays and activities about the Chesapeake Bay watershed takes place on Saturday, June 10, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Mason Neck State Park. Look for NVCT's table, and enjoy the day.

Saving a historic 245-year-old house in Alexandria

The City of Alexandria acquired the historic Murray-Dick-Fawcett House in Old Town, one of the earliest homes in the City, and one of the least-altered 18th century homes in the area. NVCT was recognized at the opening ceremony this past Saturday for technical assistance with the acquisition. The home was offered in a bargain sale by long-time owner C. Joseph Reeder. The $1.25 million dollar purchase was funded by the Virginia Land Conservation Foundation and the Virginia Outdoors Foundation See more about this special property on the

Taking land conservation priorities to Congressional delegation
NVCT met on Capitol Hill with Northern Virginia's senators and representatives as part of the Land Trust Alliance's nonpartisan Advocacy Days for land trusts from across the country. Board members and staff shared information NVCT's land conservation work with Representatives Don Beyer and Barbara Comstock, and staff for Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner, and Representatives Connolly and Wittman. NVCT organized visits and we were joined by Piedmont Environmental Council, the Land Trust of Virginia, and Virginia United Land Trusts.

Bird songs outside our window
NVCT is lucky enough to be located in the Annandale Community Park, a Fairfax County park. Recently we had a bird's eye view of a tree full of Yellow Rumped Warblers, probably on a migratory stopover. If you listen closely you can hear the warblers as well as a Red Bellied Woodpecker and a Northern Parula. This was posted on our Facebook page,
