Letter from the Principal
Dear Saint Theresa School parents and friends,

THANK YOU for all your cooperation and assistance with the implementation of the new drop-off and dismissal procedure. Please remember that the NEASC visiting committee requested, for safety reasons, that we minimize the number of parents and adults who come into the school building. Any parent that needs to come into the school MUST report to the office. Also, please note that we are not allowed to dismiss students from 2:45 pm to 3:00 pm. All students will be dismissed ONLY to parents and authorized individuals listed on your emergency contact form. A NEASC representative will re-visit the school in the near future to assess these new procedures.

This past Saturday we held our first 5K race. Thanks to the amazing work of co-chairs, Susan Turotsy and Betsy Mezzanotte, we can be proud of hosting a wonderful race with over 200 participants. I am confident that in the years to come we can make this event a huge success for St. Theresa School. I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to all participants and volunteers.

Please note that Tuesday, June 6th, school will be in session until 12:30 pm with no after school program. We received permission to use this day as one of the make-up snow days. Below is a list of some of the other important dates to keep in mind.

May 30th: Awards Ceremony
June 2nd: Pre-K Graduation
June 8th: Kindergarten Graduation

 Way to go Tigers!!!
Modern Woodmen of America  Regional  Speech Competition
Congratulations to our top three finishers from the school level of the speech competition:  Stephanie Rios, Chloe Zalenski, and Olivia Lieby.

At the regional level the students competed against other schools to go on to the state finals. One of our very own earned second place at regionals. Congratulations to to all of our representatives!
Eighth Grade Boston Field Trip
The eighth grade class had an adventurous two day trip to Boston.  The first day was a guided tour of historic Boston Freedom Trail, including the State House, Boston Common, the Old South Meeting House, and the Paul Revere House.  For lunch and shopping we visited the popular Quincy Market. We concluded our evening with a dinner cruise on the Spirit of Boston.  Students dressed up for the lovely dinner cruise.  They danced and played board games.  The second day the students visited the original mill built by the Pilgrims in 1636. It is one of the oldest water-powered grist mills in the country that is still in operation.  Students also visited the reconstructed Plymouth Village plantation as it appeared in 1627.
Fifth Grade Reaches Back in History
The 5th grade class spent the day in  "1762" at The David Humphreys House which is part of the Derby Historical Society. The students were immersed in colonial life. They learned to spin wool and weave. They cooked lunch over an open kitchen fireplace. Amazing!
Third Grade Mothers' Day Tea
The third grade had a wonderful celebration  on Tuesday . They welcomed their moms to school for our annual Mothers' Day Tea.  The students read beautiful letters to their moms telling them why they are so loved and special! A delicious brunch was provided by Mrs. Connelly, which the students were able to serve to their moms. They also presented them with homemade gifts.  A very special thank you to 8th graders, Maria Tarantino and Guiliana DeFelice, for taking all the pictures for us! It was a great morning and it was amazing to hear how much third graders love their mothers!

Happy Mother's Day to all our St. Theresa School Moms!

Thank you Mrs. Mulford for this special day!!!

Lourdes, a Pilgrimage & an Honor
I always love coming back to school after being on the Lourdes Pilgrimage. The smiles all look brighter and each time you look at someone you remember the prayer requests, struggles and moments of gratitude that you carried to Lourdes with you. It was an honor to bring your intentions with me throughout the week to the Mass at the Grotto, the Eucharistic procession, the anointing  mass, the mass in the underground basilica with 200 priests, bishops and cardinals and 30,000 pilgrims from around the world both those with illnesses and those caring for them. You were prayed for as we waited for our malades at the baths and in the quieter dark as I lit the candle for our school community and all of our intentions, whether written or not.

I remember very vividly a homily given by a priest friend years ago.  He said, "we are called, chosen, and sent. Called to follow Christ, chosen to receive his graces and love through the gift of faith, and sent out to all peoples of the world to share that love through acts of service and love in Jesus' name." I recognize in gratitude that Jesus has called us to this gift of faith, I am grateful to have been chosen to go to Lourdes, and delighted to have been sent to bring your love and prayers to Mary, our Mother. She will bring each one to her son.

At Lourdes Mary asked Bernadette to have the people come in procession, which we will do with our May Crowning as we pray the rosary. She asked us to pray for sinners, and she asked us to do acts of penance  for the conversion of sinners. Even though we can not all go on pilgrimage  together to Lourdes, we can bring a little of that pilgrim spirit right here into our St. Theresa School community. I invite you during May, the month of Mary, to take your own pilgrimage of heart.
