From Mrs. Rowley
What a beautiful Mass we celebrated on Saturday as our 2
nd
graders made their First Holy Communion. We look forward to them receiving the Blessed Eucharist with the rest of the school at Mass on Thursday. At the school Mass this week we will also have our annual May Crowning. Please join us!
This week is Shakespeare week at St. Ambrose School! The 8
th
graders will perform Much Ado About Nothing, both for the school (Wednesday) and for their families (Thursday). The latter will be preceded by the annual dinner for performers, parents and faculty. Under the direction of Mrs. Greshock, the 8
th
graders are doing a wonderful job!
Please mark the date: June 3 is our annual 5K Peace Run. Please register by this Friday to be guaranteed a T-t-shirt. Please join us for this event, which will support our STEM program!
Have a great week!

From the Health Clinic
Mrs. Maureen Earner
([email protected])
Most tick bites are harmless and do not need medical treatment. But some ticks (like the deer tick, wood tick, and others) can carry harmful germs that cause diseases like Rocky Mountain spotted fever and Lyme disease. The deer tick is tiny, no larger than a pencil point. Other ticks are larger and easier to find on the skin.
How Do I Remove a Tick?
It is important to remove a tick as soon as possible. Follow these steps:
-
Use tweezers to grasp the tick firmly at its head or mouth, next to the skin.
2. Pull firmly and steadily until the tick lets go of the skin. Do not twist the tick or rock it from side to side. If part of the tick stays in the skin, do not worry. It will eventually come out on its own.
3. Release the tick into a jar or zip-locked bag in case you want to have it identified later on.
4. Wash your hands and the site of the bite with soap and water.
5. Swab the bite site with alcohol.

Update from STEM Club
Circuits were the topic de jour for both our Wednesday and Thursday club members last week. Our 2
nd
-8
th
group explored making a simple circuit out of a coin cell battery and an LED. Once the club members figured out how to get their LED to light up, the kids then implemented their newfound technology skills into making Mother's Day cards. I hope everyone enjoyed their cards!
Our K-1
st
group had a blast using Snap Circuits, which are electrical components such as motors, resistors, switches, etc, that provide a safe and fun way for students to explore the basic principles of electronics and circuits. The students also had an opportunity to pictorially follow an instruction manual circuit diagram.
We started with building a circuit that enabled the students to turn a light switch on and off and then moved to using electrical energy to power a DC motor and fan blade. The motor, switch and fan blade circuit was met not with shrieks but SCREAMS of delight. We had so much excitement and energy (pun intended!) that we kept going and altered our circuit to turn our fan blade into a flying saucer!
