LAKE WASHINGTON SPECIAL NEEDS PTSA MEETING. The Lake Washington Special Needs PTSA meets again on Tuesday January 16,  2018 in the Board Room at the LWSD Resource Center in Redmond Town Center. There will be Coffee and the lending library will be available beginning at 6:30 p.m.  The meeting runs from 7 p.m. to 8:30p.m. Dr.   Ilene Schwartz of the University of Washington will discuss strategies for FULL and MEANINGFUL INCLUSION - strategies, value and implementation .
FREE CHILDCARE IS AVAILABLE, for students of ANY AGE.  Please email Sarah McEnroe at [email protected]    at least three days prior to the meeting. Include your child's name(s) and age(s) and use the subject line:  Child Care at PTSA meeting. Last minute drop-ins can only be accepted if space is available as determined at the meeting time. ARE YOU AN RHS PTSA MEMBER YET? RHS REGISTRATION 2018-19. Redmond High School In-House Registration will be in January 2018 this year.  Here are a couple of things to keep in mind:
  • All registration videos, handouts, registration FAQs, and course catalog will be available on the RHS website (rhs.lwsd.org) under Counseling. If you miss registration, you can access all the information on the website.
  • Students will be registering for 7-periods for each semester.

Homeroom
  • The 2018-19 Registration video will be played during homeroom to current 9th, 10th, and 11th graders.
  • Students will receive the Course Registration Worksheet that they will fill out using the Course Choice Sheet and Course Catalog (only available on the RHS Website under "Counseling").
  • If students have any questions, they can come see their counselor during drop-ins on Tuesday, 1/9 and Thursday, 1/11.
 
Tuesday, 1/9
Homeroom + lunch
  • RHS Curriculum Fair will be held in the cafeteria. Students will be able to learn about the variety of classes offered at RHS and make the best choice for their interests and goals.
  • Counselors will be available in the Career Center during HR and lunch for students to drop-in with registration questions.
Thursday, 1/11
Homeroom + lunch
  • Counselors will be available in the library during HR and lunch for students to drop-in with registration questions.
Tuesday, 1/16
Homeroom
  • The 2018-19 Course Submission video will be played during homeroom to current 9th, 10th, and 11th graders.
  • Course requests will be submitted through Career Cruising. Please bring your laptop and your Course Registration Worksheet.
  • Homeroom teachers will collect paper copies of the Course Request Worksheet to turn into your counselor.

WORLD LANGUAGE COMPETENCY TEST - 01/10
World Language Competency Credit Opportunity
What: World Language Competency Test
Test Date: January 10th, 2018
Registration Deadline: January 4th, 2018 at 11:59pm. Register on the website.
When: 1:30pm
Where: Lake Washington High School
Who: Students who already have proficiency in a world language and are not already earning credit for that language through a class
Background: Students may develop world language skills in many ways. They may use another language at home, attend language programs in the community, learn language skills online or spend time living abroad. Students who have achieved some proficiency in a world language may seek to earn credit by taking an assessment that measures their proficiency.
Students who wish to pursue this option must sign up to participate in "Washington World Language Assessment Days." Through this program, students complete an assessment. If they demonstrate at least a Novice Mid proficiency level, they receive a certificate of recognition and a letter indicating proficiency levels and number of high school credits earned.
The Lake Washington School District offers five testing opportunities for 9th-12th grade students in 2017-18.The cost of a first attempt during a student's high school career is free.

PSAT SCORE INFO.  Hello Students, if you took the October PSAT/NMSQT, please review the following information: During December 11-13, students who provided their email address on their PSAT/NMSQT answer sheet will receive an email reminder from College Board explaining where and how to view their scores. If you do not have an online account with College Board, you can pick up a copy of your score report in the counseling center. Your PSAT score is a helpful tool for college preparation. Please consider the resources below to help with understanding your score as well as identifying proactive next steps you can take.

ETHICAL EATING DAY -01/11. Ethical Eating means choosing a vegetarian diet and locally produced food because such personal choices prevent global warming and combat climate change. Take the pledge to ethical eating on Jan 11th

DRAMAFEST PLAY SCRIPT SUBMISSIONS -01/26. Hey Redmond Students, if you would like to submit a Dramafest play submission, scripts can be sent to: Mr. Toews. The deadline is:  January 26th, 2018.  
Booster Clubs
DRAMA BOOSTERS.  Supporting RHS Theatre Arts.
It's time to register for the Washington State Thespians IE (Individual Events) Festival:
January 27, 2018 at Mountlake Terrace High School in Mountlake Terrace, WA. The deadline to turn in your registration forms is January 4, 2018.
IE is an Event-Based Competition where students are adjudicated on their performances in the following categories: Solo Musical, Duet Musical, Group Musical (3 or more performers), Solo Monologue, Duet Scene, Group Scene (3 or more performers).
To participate in IE, students need to
1)      Completely fill out the registration form located on the RHS Drama Boosters website,
or obtained from Drama advisor, Brian Toews or at IE Info meeting on Nov. 27 in the PAC.
2)      Completely fill out the 2017-2018 Chapter Consent and Acceptance form, found on the Boosters website or click here
3)      Turn in both forms to Deb Nielsen or the Drama Boosters Mailbox at school by January 4, 2018.

Extracurricular Activities
ATTENTION TECH SAVVY STUDENTS! Do you love creating films? Do you need volunteer hours? Wilder Elementary is looking for help putting together a short film compilation for the annual Wilder Movie Night! This is a great opportunity to earn volunteer hours and showcase your video editing skills. The volunteer position would include receiving short movie submissions on thumb drives, compiling those movies into one long film, and possibly adding music and still photos. You can use any program you are comfortable using and we will work closely with you to give you any support needed. The compilation would need to be completed by Monday, January 22nd. Interested? TEEN CEO 2018 - Save the date! Attention high school entrepreneurs - The only event of its kind in Western Washington, Teen CEO is a multifaceted high school business competition in the Lake Washington School District that highlights young entrepreneurs who are currently operating a business. This competition helps jump-start these businesses with cash prizes exceeding $5000. Connect with business leaders who are passionate about helping students fulfill their entrepreneurial dreams. This year the competition will take place at the Lake Washington School District Resource Center On Saturday March 3rd, 2018.  Application deadline is January 5th, 2018.  Student applications are available in the College & Career Center or at www.teenceowa.com.
 
JOIN REDMOND POLICE LAW ENFORCEMENT EXPLORING. Redmond High School students, in 9th grade - 12th grade, are invited to join Redmond Police Exploring. Law Enforcement Exploring is a national co-ed career education program for youth in 9th grade -20 years old. Mentor with Redmond Police Officers and participate in activities with other youth interested in a career in Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement. CITY OF REDMOND TEEN PROGRAM.
Volunteers Needed! Study Lab is a vital program providing homework help and a safe workspace to many students at Redmond Middle School, and we need high school and adult volunteers to make it possible. Volunteer tutors needed in all subjects Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 2:00-3:30 in the RMS library. Only one day/week commitment necessary.
