Seeking Venues for the 2018 Westshore 101 Breakfast Series
Showcase your facility to new and prospective Alliance members by hosting one of our monthly Westshore 101 breakfasts. All that we ask of you is to provide a room with seating for 20 to 25 people and a light continental breakfast. In exchange for hosting the event, your company will be featured as the event sponsor on our website event calendar and event announcements. Additionally, you will have a few minutes to address event attendees.

PricewaterhouseCoopers will be the anchor tenant and bring 350 new jobs to a 250,000-square-foot building to be erected next to the company's existing offices in the MetWest complex on Boy Scout Blvd. MORE

Plans Move Forward for Publix Westshore
Publix Supermarkets has filed a rezoning request with the city of Tampa to allow for a grocery store at 4900 W. Kennedy Blvd., which was previously home to Sports Authority. The site is owned by  National Retail Properties  Inc., an Orlando-based real estate investment trust. MORE
 
The Bay Harbor Hotel has unveiled a new name and look as it converts into the Godfrey Hotel & Cabanas Tampa. The hotel located at 7700 W. Courtney Campbell Causeway is in the final phase of its multimillion-dollar renovation, which is slated for completion in spring 2018. MORE
Plans for a six-story, 106-room hotel at 5402 W. Laurel St. received preliminary approval from Tampa City Council in December. The application submitted by LTJ Group Holdings, LLC and Baywood Hotels also includes plans for redeveloping the existing warehouse and office parcel on the 4-acre site. The decision for final rezoning approval is scheduled for January 11.

New Sidewalks & Bike Lanes Coming to Westshore

As part of Westshore Alliance's effort to improve pedestrian infrastructure in Westshore, sidewalks will be installed on the north side of Laurel St. from Frontage Road to O'Brien St. and on the north side of Columbus Ave. from Himes Ave. to Dale Mabry Hwy. The projects are scheduled to begin this month with plans for completion in mid-April. 

 

Also slated to begin in January, safety improvements will be made on Himes Ave. from Columbus Dr. to Kennedy Blvd., which include adding dedicated bike lanes throughout the corridor, decreasing the speed limit from 40 to 35 mph, and replacing two-way left turn lanes with raised separator islands.

New travel lanes on the Veterans Expressway, from Hillsborough Ave. to Gunn Hwy., are now open. Drivers can enter northbound at Hillsborough Ave. with the first accessible exit at Gunn Hwy. Drivers traveling southbound can enter at Gunn Hwy. with the first accessible exit at SR 60. More information is available  here .
The Tampa Bay Area Regional Transit Authority (TBARTA) Governing Board held a vision workshop last month to renew its purpose, mission, goals, and guiding principles, and established an action plan to refocus the agency's mission to bring regional transit service to Tampa Bay. MORE

Congratulations to Dr. Allen Witt who begins his role this week as Hillsborough Community College's Dale Mabry Campus President following the retirement of Dr. Robert Chunn. Dr. Witt joined HCC in 2007 as an academic dean and has served as the campus president of the SouthShore Campus since 2009.
Congratulations to Nancy Herz, Westshore Alliance Executive Committee member and managing director of Commercial Florida Realty, for receiving the Commercial Real Estate Women Tampa Bay's (CREW) Member of the Year award.
The new Women's Care Florida Women's Health Center located at 5016 W. Cypress St. took top honors in the "Best New Development, Medical Office Buildings (MOBs) and Other Outpatient Facilities, 50,000 to 99,999 square feet" category in the Healthcare Real Estate Insights™ (HREI) magazine's annual, national awards program. The 63,289-square-foot facility was developed by NexCore Group.
Crescent Westshore, the 375-unit apartment community at 2202 N. Lois Ave., recently announced its new "Society Westshore" name and rebrand. 
Best wishes to Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay General Manager Paul Joseph, who begins his new position as general manager of the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress in Orlando later this month. Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay will soon welcome from Austin, TX its new GM Lance Stumpf. 
Congratulations to Air Animal Inc. Executive VP Andrea Woolf Parker for being elected to the board of the Tennessee Relocation Council where she will oversee sponsorships. Air Animal serves pet parents moving across the U.S. or around the world and provides U.S. Customs clearance for pets entering the U.S. through any major gateway.
George M. Steinbrenner Field received the 2017 Ballpark Digest "Best Ballpark Renovation (MLB)" award. The stadium is home to New York Yankees spring training and the Class A Florida State League Tampa Tarpons. MORE
The Tampa Yankees have officially changed the name of the Class A Florida State League team to the Tampa Tarpons. The name change is a nod to the original Tampa Tarpons minor-league team that played at Al Lopez Field from 1957-87. MORE
Thousands of University of South Carolina and University of Michigan fans packed Raymond James Stadium on January 1 for the 2018 Outback Bowl. According to the Tampa Bay Business Journal, "Over its history, the game has brought more than a million out-of-market visitors to the region while creating an estimated $1 billion in economic impact and distributing over $130 million to universities."
