St. George's mission is to share together God's work in our lives through liturgy and sacrament, through joyous and caring fellowship, and through courageous and compassionate engagement with the world.

Dear People of St. George's,

This Sunday we will hear Jesus utter one of his most famous lines, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life."  There's been a lot of homiletical ink spilled over that line, and many good interpretations and applications of it.  One of the things that strikes me today as I think about it is how it can be directive for us as followers of Jesus.  If Jesus is the way, then we're on a trip of some kind, we're going somewhere.  If Jesus is the truth, then it implies we're to be asking some questions and not just flinging answers about.  If Jesus is the life, then this is an ongoing, persistent event, and not a finite experience.  Yesterday at the Deans Meeting and Eucharist at the Cathedral, Dean Jon Clodfelter offered the sermon and spoke about this very thing.  He said that the church, and thus the followers of Jesus who make up the church, are always undergoing transformation.  One of the transformations he believed has already happened, at least, as he said, since the time when he was a boy in the middle part of the 20th century, is that we have changed from being a consumer of church, to a producer of church.  We cannot simply sit back in our pews and expect church to happen to us and around us.  If we want the church to be alive and to make known the risen Lord Jesus to the world, then we have to be the ones to make that happens: professional Christians (Clergy) and Laity alike.  This resonates to me with what Jesus is saying to us this week.  We have an active, not an inactive faith.

God bless you!

Faithfully,
Fr. Ryan+

Happy Mothers' Day!

New Frames and Restored History!

When Jerusalem Hall received new carpet, we made a very unusual discovery.  Buried underneath the old carpet were two posters called "Our Roll of Honor" containing long lists of names.  We have confirmed that these names were people who belonged to St. George's and who served in the military.  Cathy Hetznecker took the Rolls of Honor and cleaned them up and then reframed them.  They are now hanging proudly in Jerusalem Hall to the right of the TV.  Cathy also took our Charter, whose frame was broken, and reframed it as well.  Restored, it now hangs again in Jerusalem Hall.  Thank you Cathy for this work restoring some of the history of St. George's!  Next Sunday, stop by and take a look at these beautiful pieces of St. George history!
Outreach Opportunity
Good Works Workday in Phoenixville
this Saturday, May 13, 2017

Many thanks to Ed Brocklesby, Sr., Gary Bullock, Jim Burns, Paula Luckring, and Janet Reddin for volunteering for this Saturday. We will carpool from church at 7:45 am and will be back around 4 p.m.

Good Works, Inc. is a Christian non-profit organization which exists to improve the living conditions of low-income families in Chester County.  Services to make homes drier, safer, and warmer are offered at no cost – with the help of volunteers like us.

Building skills are a plus, but not required. You will be assigned a task that matches your ability and you will be guided by a Good Works leader during the workday.    A sign-up sheet and list of past St. George volunteers is on the Outreach Bulletin Board – talk to any of them for first-hand information about their Good Works experience.

If you can help on May 13, please sign up or e-mail Eileen Kammerer at eileen_421@yahoo.com   For more information about Good Works, Inc. visit www.goodworksinc.org

Wednesday Night
Adult Education and Formation
Begins TONIGHT, Wednesday, May 10, 7 PM

Oh, Hell!
Now that we've got your attention: Many people have questions about the afterlife and some of those questions focus on, well, the place you don't want to go.  What does the Bible actually say about Hell?  Does it really exist?  No, like really, with all those flames, fire, devils, and torments?  Do people actually end up there?  Would God, who is supposed to be all loving and all merciful, actually consign people to such a place?

We're going to explore these and other questions using three resource.  First we'll take a look at what the Bible actually says about Hell.  Then we'll look at two great, fictional takes on this piece of very hot real estate - C.S. Lewis's The Great Divorce, and his lesser known friend and contemporary, Charles Williams' Descent Into Hell.

Join us for faithful questions, lively discussion, and incomparable fellowship!
