What have we done for you lately?
New and Updated Financing Strategies for CYSHCN on the Catalyst Center website

The Catalyst Center conducted structured interviews with Title V/CYSHCN programs, Medicaid agencies, and family leader organizations to learn about financing of care and coverage for children and youth with special health care needs (CYSHCN). Based on our analyses, we identified 6 additional financing strategy categories: Behavioral Health, Benefits Counseling, Family Supports, Foster Care, Inequities, and Relief Funds. We also updated the existing financing categories with new examples of the innovative policies and practices states are using to:
  • Expand health coverage for CYSHCN
  • Close benefit gaps for services not adequately covered by public or private health plans
  • Pay for additional services not traditionally covered by public or private health plans
  • Reduce health insurance inequities, and
  • Build the capacity of the system of services for CYSHCN

Webinar Slides: Breaking the Link Between Special Health Care Needs and Financial Hardship

On April 26, 2017, the Catalyst Center presented a webinar to introduce the updated edition of Breaking the Link Between Special Health Care Needs and Financial Hardship. The presenters discussed the impact that health care financing and coverage gaps have on the lives of real families and highlighted some policy solutions that can help reduce family financial hardship and ensure CYSHCN receive all needed services and supports.

Data Update: Children's Behavioral Health Care Use in Medicaid

The Center for Health Care Strategies, Inc. examined 2011 Medicaid claims data and created a report about the use of behavioral health services by children enrolled in Medicaid.
