Ground Breaking in Boardman
HFHMV is ready to build!

HFHMV held a ground breaking ceremony on April 4th and is ready to begin building a new home at 82 Erskine Avenue in Boardman. The house is slated to be done by the end of the year and will welcome Angel and her children home when complete. This house will be HFHMV's 139th home in the tri-county area.

Angel (above on the left, with her sister on the right), grew-up in a Habitat home and is happy to be able to give her children the same opportunity her mother gave her - the opportunity to grow-up in a decent, affordable home in a safe neighborhood.

She also looks forward to being a part of the Boardman community and is thankful for the sponsors that have made building her home possible. The Youngstown Columbiana Association of Realtors (YCAR) is the biggest donor to the home and has worked diligently to raise the funds to help sponsor the building of Angel's home. Other key sponsors are: HFHMV ReStores, Community Housing Impact & Preservation Program (CHIP), Sign-A-Stud Sponsors, Coventry Lighting, Westminster College Campus Chapter, AmeriCorps, Lowe's, Women Build, Koncrete Dezign, Boak & Sons, Banner Supply, Rotary, Chemical Bank, Dennis Mikkelsen Plumbing, Dow, Whirlpool, Square D, Yale Residential, Valspar, and Hunter Douglas.

If you would like to be a sponsor, volunteer or to provide a lunch to our construction crews, please visit our website or call 330-743-7244 x 304.

Advocacy in Columbus
Speak. Act. Build.

HFHMV's Executive Director, Monica Craven (pictured right in the photo above), and our Struthers ReStore Assistant Manager, Meg Williams (pictured left), visited Columbus on April 25th for #HabitatAdvocacyDay2017 to join their voices with 22 other Habitat affiliates throughout Ohio.

They learned about the importance of advocacy to ensure the continuance of federal grants and programs that keep Habitat affiliates operational. They also learned that there is a strong need to advocate for the benefit of the community and homeowners HFHMV serves. Without policies, regulations and a sustainable budget that support communities and the process of obtaining a home, Habitat cannot be effective in its mission to provide decent, affordable, safe housing.

If you would like to advocate for Habitat and support its mission, you can take action to protect federal programs that Habitat relies on, such as AmeriCorps; funding programs, such as HOME and SHOP; and the Solid Ground effort that fights for families to have equal access to land. By taking two minutes to complete an electronic letter that can be personalized with your own message, y ou can take action on the Habitat International website!

The Legislative Priorities HFHMV is focused on currently are:
  • Property Tax Exemption for Habitat for Humanity ReStores
  • Support for the Ohio Housing Trust Fund (OHTF)
  • New Homestead Act (in draft form)
  • Preservation of the Community Housing Impact and Preservation Program (CHIP)
Take Action Today!

Habitat for Humanity affiliates across Ohio are building strength, reliance and stability through shelter! Here are some interesting numbers about OHIO Habitats:
  • 4,500 families have been served in OHIO since 1983.
  • Over 250 families served last year in OHIO.
  • 25,000 volunteers are logging over 400,000 hours each year!
40 attendees from 23 affiliates across the state of Ohio participated in Habitat Advocacy Day 2017!
