Gym Floor Contract Approved for Westmoor School

A contract was awarded to replace the gym floor at Westmoor School over the summer. The gym was used for storage during the recent renovation project, and the floor was not replaced at that time. Four contractors bid on the project, and the lowest bid was awarded to Kiefer USA. Architects Wight and Company will oversee the project.

NBJH Food Contractor Renewed
OrganicLife, which has been providing food service at Northbrook Junior High for the last five years, was awarded the service contract for 2017-18. Bids were received from three companies during the competitive process, which is required by state law.
OrganicLife best meets the District’s needs and philosophy to provide nutritious meals. They have also been responsive to requests and suggestions, said Jessica Donato, Chief School Business Official.

District to request School Speed Zone on Waukegan Road
The Board agreed to submit a written request to the Illinois Department of Transportation to create a school speed zone on Waukegan Road as it impacts Northbrook Junior High and the crosswalk for Meadowbrook School at Walters Avenue.
Two community members who have been working to lower the speed limit on Waukegan Road between Voltz Road and Dundee Road discussed the issue during public comment portion of the meeting.

Transportation Costs Impact Student Fees
An increase in transportation costs reflected in a new three-year contract will trickle down to student fees while the District continues to cover the bulk of transportation costs through other revenue sources.
Transportation fees for students who live within boundaries that do not require bus service by state law will increase $25 to $305 for the year. The $305 represents less than half the actual cost of providing service, said Jessica Donato, Chief School Business Official.
Students who are required to be bussed by state law are provided the service free of charge. However, there is a $75 late registration fee after July 18.
The sixth-grade Outdoor Education program fee will increase $10 to reflect bus and programming cost increases, and the bus fee for Young Explorers pre-kindergarten program will increase $25 per year.
