Fairmeadow Art Fair Reception
Thu, May 4, 6-7:30 pm
You're invited to bring family and friends to view Fairmeadow student artwork. Join us to mingle and enjoy refreshments. Brought to you by the Fairmeadow PTA. We look forward to seeing you this Thursday evening to celebrate art!  If you can't attend the reception, art will be displayed all this week in the MP room. Art will be returned to your artist's classroom the week of May 8th.

Palo Alto Educators Association May 1st Day of Action
Mon, May 1, before school at each school site
The PAEA Executive Board is asking its members to participate in this national day of action. It is a day where we can all participate and profess our unwavering support for all students, our vigilance in making schools safe zones, and our persistent advocacy for the public education all California students deserve. We are asking that all teachers stand outside school in the morning to welcome the students and let them know that our campuses are a safe place for ALL students.
Children's Safety Poster Contest
Sodexo Safety Poster Contest open to children ages 6-17, judging done in separate age categories with prizes of $200, $150 and $100 gift cards. Posters should illustrate safety in home, workplace, and anywhere in between. Each entrant must fill out Sodexo Release-Minor form. Entries accepted until May 26. Contact Alva Spence  for more info.

12th Annual Blossom Birth and Family Fair
Sun, May 7, 10 am - 2 pm, Mitchell Park Community Center, 3700 Middlefield Rd
Palo Alto's most popular free event for new and expectant families! This year's Guest Speaker (kick off at 10:30am) is author and mindfulness expert Dr. Amy Saltzman on the topic "Mindfulness, Birth, and Parenting: Finding Grace Amidst the Chaos." Space is limited, so save your spot by registering online for this free talk. There will also be a fantastic raffle with thousands of dollars in prizes including a Happiest Baby SNOO Smart Sleeper. You can register for the raffle in advance! The event includes engaging workshops, an opportunity to connect with fantastic local pregnancy, birth, and parenting resources and businesses. As always, there will be a baby and toddler play area, kids entertainment, food, raffle prizes, and much more. Stock Up On Summer Reading at FOPAL's Huge Children's Used Book Sale

More than 13,000 kids' books, games, puzzles, CDs, and DVDs will be on sale at incredibly low prices at Friends of the Palo Alto Library's monthly book sale -- everything from board books and picture books to school age fiction and nonfiction titles to early teen fiction. All items are lightly used or new and are sorted by age level and subject matter. Many books in foreign languages. Over 50,000 books for adults in FOPAL's Main and Bargain rooms. The 2017-2018 school year starts on 8/18/2017. Please join us for a school intro and classroom visit/Open House. Palo Alto Chinese School has been serving the community in Chinese language instruction for 54 years, and is still accepting new enrollment. Class meets every Friday 7-9 pm at JLS Middle School. There are two tracks. The Mandarin track is offered from Preschool - Grade 12, for students from heritage families. The Chinese as a Second Language (CSL) track is offered from intro, beginning, intermediate to advanced level for students with various exposure to Chinese language. Palo Alto World Music Day: Save the Date, Musicians and Volunteers Wanted

The City of Palo Alto has declared June 18 as World Music Day. World Music Day is a free music festival that takes place in cities around the world every year around the Summer Solstice. Now for the eighth year in Palo Alto, 50 professional and amateur musical groups will perform a wide variety of musical genres: jazz, pop, rock, classical, world music, choral, etc. All performances are free and open to the public. This is a fun and unique family event not to be missed. Book the date now and tell your friends. Jordan Middle School Drama Club Presents "You Can't Take It With You"

Please join the Jordan Middle School Drama Club as they present "You Can't Take It With You." This student-directed production is an American classic comedy that revolves around an avant-garde family of wannabe artists, fireworks makers, a patriarch who doesn't believe in income tax, and an array of eccentric guests trailing in and out of their chaotic household. They may appear mad at first but when daughter Alice invites her boyfriend's rich, snobby parents to dinner we learn that it might be everyone else in the world that is mad. After all, money doesn't buy happiness and we all know you can't take it with you! Tickets are $5 for students/$10 for adults and can be purchased at the door.
2-day Digital Logic Workshop!
Sat, May 13 and 20, 10 am - 12:30 pm, Museum of American Heritage, 351 Homer Ave
Students will learn about Binary mathematics, Boolean logic, and a variety of discrete digital logic circuits including: AND gates, OR gates, flip flops, counters, and timers. They will also learn to assemble and solder a human reaction timer built from discrete digital logic devices! 2-day course is $70.00 for members and $80.00 for non-members. Registration is required This event is for ages 10 and up. No exceptions.
Use Your Feet for Freedom 5k

It is a difficult thing to realize that slavery is still happening in this world. It is happening in other countries, as well as right here in the United States. It is happening in the form of human trafficking, domestic servitude, unpaid labor, and sexual exploitation. The statistics with regards to human trafficking are sobering, but everyone can help fight this tragedy. The Palo Alto Vineyard Church is hosting a 5k at Mitchell Park, the proceeds of which will be given Freedom House  which is committed to helping survivors of human trafficking. Register here.
Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study
The Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study will enroll 10,000+ healthy children and follow them from ages 9 to 10 into early adulthood to understand how children's experiences affect brain development and other aspects of their lives. Researchers at SRI International in Menlo Park are conducting the ABCD study, which is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health across the country. Financial compensation for participation: families can earn up to $300.
