Responding to a growing interest in current information about water resources and water monitoring efforts, Columbia Basin Trust has released a report about the current state of water knowledge in the Columbia Basin region. The report is called Water Monitoring and Climate Change in the Upper Columbia Basin.

Since climate change can influence the quality, quantity and timing of flow of Basin water resources, understanding relevant changes and trends is increasingly important for Basin communities and resource managers. The report includes:
- an overview of Columbia Basin water resources, from glaciers to groundwater, and pressures on them
- anticipated effects of climate change on various types of water resources in the Basin
- status and scope of water monitoring efforts in the region
- an outline of opportunities to fill knowledge gaps about water resources to support a range of activities such as ecosystem stewardship and community water supply planning

The report can be viewed prior to the webinar. A press release with links to report highlights and to the full report is available at the Columbia Basin Trust website, here.

Citizen Engagement in Wetland Habitat Restoration,
Arrow Lakes Region

We are delighted to announce that the Loblaw Water Fund is supporting a project partnership between member groups in the Arrow Lake region!

The project is a 'network' project as it involves several groups in the Arrow region in existing and potential wetland habitat restoration projects. The Slocan Wetland Assessment and Monitoring Project (SWAMP) will be providing support with wetland mapping and assessment protocols. The Columbia Basin Watershed Network helped to bring the project together and will be contributing administrative assistance.  This project was outlined at a Columbia Basin Watershed Network workshop in Nakusp last Spring.

We are currently seeking a part-time contract Engagement Coordinator, preferably located in the Arrow or Slocan, to coordinate events, volunteers, and to ensure that this project works with ongoing work being done in the area by others.

Applicants send resume and 3 references to cbwn.coordinator@gmail.com by June 9

May proclaimed as Invasive Species Action Month

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, April 7, 2017, VICTORIA -
B.C. g overnment has proclaimed May 2017 as "Invasive Species Action Month" to help raise awareness of invasive plants and animals in British Columbia and to highlight the environmental and economic damage they can cause.
The proclamation is part of an ongoing effort to encourage people to learn more about how these plants and animals can displace native species and disrupt local ecosystems. The B.C. government, the Invasive Species Council of B.C., regional districts, local governments, First Nations and community-based organizations work together throughout the year to help prevent the introduction and spread of these harmful species.
The Invasive Species Council of B.C. assists with invasive species program co-ordination and communications, develops best management practices (in collaboration with the B.C. government and local agencies), and helps increase public awareness and public reporting of invasive species.
Total funding for the invasive mussel program is now $4.5 million annually, run in partnership with BC Hydro, Columbia Power, FortisBC and the Columbia Basin Trust.
