Left Frightened and Alone

Cats and Kittens Abandoned in Sealed Containers

On Monday afternoon, a Kentucky Humane Society staff member found two containers taped shut in front of a locked door at our main facility. Heat rolled out of one of the containers as we cut it open. Inside the two boxes were a total of 11 cats and kittens.

While we are not certain why the cats were abandoned, we want to help people so they never get to a point that they feel compelled to abandon their pets. That's why we have set up our free Pet Help Line, 502-509-4PET, If you know of anyone experiencing a pet-related problem, please share this number with them. We'd like to help before an animal is abandoned.

Do you want to help abandoned animals like Queenie, Prince and their kittens? Donations are gratefully accepted at www.kyhumane.org/donate

Zorro Needs a Hero

Love, Care and Understanding Help This Dog

Zorro came to the Kentucky Humane Society when his owner could no longer care for him. Zorro has lost his teeth. Much of his fur has fallen out, and his vision isn't what it used to be. This sweet Brittany Spaniel mix loves people, especially men, and he is nervous in the shelter. But here at the Kentucky Humane Society, we believe there is an adopter out there for him.

Because of your donations, we can wait until the right person comes along to give this loving boy the home he deserves. Because of you, Zorro doesn't have a deadline to find the right people. Thank you so much for all you do.

Would you like to help pets like Zorro? The Kentucky Humane Society is a local nonprofit that relies on donations to do our lifesaving work. Please  donate and help save even more lives!

Tonight Is Dog Day at the Park

Join us tonight at Louisville Slugger Field for the first Dog Day at the Park of the season. There will be goodie bags for the first 500 dogs who come through the gate. These events are a great way to hang out with your pooch while watching America's favorite pastime with other dog lovers. It's also dollar hot dog and Pepsi night, AND there's a dog bandanna giveaway.

Tickets are $8 for people and $3 for dogs. Proceeds from the dog tickets go directly to the Kentucky Humane Society. The game starts at 6:35 p.m. We'd love to see you there!

Are You My Mom (or Dad)?

This week, from May 8 through May 14, we want to help everyone who wants to be a mom or dad. We've reduced adoption fees on select dogs to $40. This fee includes microchipping. Give a homeless pet a family this Mother's Day. Adopt love. See available dogs here.

Waggin' Trail: Be a Hero to Our Shelter Animals

Waggin' Trail Festival for the Animals will be held June 11 from 2-6 p.m. at the Louisville Water Tower. There will be a walk, but the emphasis will be on fun! We invite you to register for the walk and festival, raise money for the Kentucky Humane Society, and celebrate meeting our goals and saving the lives of even more companion animals.

Your registration and fundraising efforts all go to support the Kentucky Humane Society's mission and save animals' lives!  Thank you for all you do.  Register today!

#HelpaHorse Success!

We want to thank everyone who came out to Metzger's Country Store to meet KHS mini horse Lil' Sebastian and donate for our foals. We also want to thank those who attended Uptown Art-Louisville's "Paint the Ponies" event. A portion of the proceeds from this event were given to the Kentucky Humane Society's Equine C.A.R.E. program. These events, celebrated during the ASPCA's #HelpaHorse Week, helped raise awareness of the plight of our state's horses and supported the Kentucky Humane Society's mission to create more compassionate communities.

We Appreciate Our Volunteers!

The last week of April was Volunteer Appreciation Week, and we spent a little time celebrating all the wonderful volunteers who give their love and their work to the Kentucky Humane Society. From fosters who care for pets in their homes, to those who walk dogs, enrich the lives of cats, or help with events, our volunteers are amazing. We pledge to appreciate their efforts throughout the year. If you volunteer for us, thank you. If you know someone who volunteers for us, please let them know how important their contributions truly are.

Healthy Pets Clinic Open 5 Days a Week

Our Healthy Pets Clinic is open at the Sam Swope Treatment & Lifesaving Center, 241 Steedly Drive (formerly our Main Campus) Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The clinic offers low-cost vaccines, preventatives, diagnostics and treatment of minor medical issues.

No appointments are necessary. Saturdays are our busiest day, so long waits may be possible on that day. We encourage those who can to use the clinic during the week for more prompt service. We want to thank PetSmart Charities for the generous grant that helped fund the Healthy Pets Clinic.

Irena, Feeders Supply Pet of the Month

Meet Irena, an easy-going three-year-old Domestic Shorthair mix. Irena came to the Kentucky Humane Society from another shelter and has been making an impression with visitors ever since! This chunky gal chirrups when people walk past and is always ready for chin scratches and belly rubs. Although she is not fond of dogs, Irena seems to appreciate the company of other felines. Her biggest weakness is her inability to resist toys - especially ones with catnip! Meet Irena at our adoption center at the Hikes Point Feeders Supply, 3079 Breckenridge Lane. Learn more about this little lady.
