The CCUSD Partnership Leadership Group affirms its support for the May 1st DAY OF ACTION in support of public education.
The American Federation of Teachers, the California Teachers Association, the National Education Association, the Alliance to Reclaim our Schools and other community groups have organized to support students, schools and school districts as we demonstrate our commitment to public education.
We pledge to support:
- Great neighborhood schools, not vouchers and privatization
- Safe schools free from the threat of deportation, bigotry, and hate
- ALL children and their families regardless of race and ethnicity
- Communities, not walls
Together, we can protect and improve public education.

Lashinda Demus, American Record Holder for the Women's 400M Hurdles, brought her Silver Medal from London's 2012 Olympic Games to Career Day at Farragut last week. Along with sharing insights into her career as a professional athlete, Lashinda talked about what it means to represent your country, as well as what's possible when you commit to something, work hard it, and practice, practice, practice.

AVPA Wins California Exemplary Arts Award

Now a California Gold Ribbon Exemplary Arts Program, Culver City High School's AVPA boasts over 20 years of nationally-recognized arts programs lead by visionaries Tony Spano, Christine Hatanaka, Jill Novick, Alexis Reyes, and Julie Carson. Students at Culver City High School all have access to award-winning Visual Arts, Music, Drama, Film, and Dance offerings that teach creativity, innovation, and life-long collaboration skills.

Team Bagel Bytes Is At Nationals!

The members of Team Bagel Bytes are officially rockstars. Just check them out on their "Stadium Walk" at America's Center in downtown St. Louis as they compete this weekend for a National Championship. Walking through a tunnel into a stadium of thousands to compete for robotics glory is a feeling like none other.

Culver City's Girls Lacrosse dominated Long Beach Poly and Hamilton High School this week on their way to a pair of 13-4 and 12-4 victories, respectively. The wins propel the Lady Centaurs into the Top 100, and they're looking forward to closing out the season in the next few weeks. If you haven't been out to a game yet, hurry up before it's too late!

Backpacks 4 Kids Breaks Fundraising Record
|
|
|
Working closely with the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, volunteers for the Backpacks for Kids program netted more than $7,600 in food, gift card and monetary donations during their weekend food drive last week. Backpacks 4 Kids is Culver City's signature Whole Child, Whole Community effort in which more than 100 students go home each Friday with backpacks full of food to help feed themselves and their families. Thanks for the support!

The Arts Start Early In Culver City Schools

The Office Of Child Development's "The Grouchy Ladybug" was a smash hit this week, and brought tons of attention to our pre-school's commitment to the Arts. 3 and 4 year-olds in Culver City Schools learn important social skills when collaborating to put on a play, just the same as our amazing AVPA'ers a few years down the road in high school.
