STAYING IN SHAPE DURING THE WINTER

During the Winter months it can be  tough to stay in shape up north with the snow and harsh weather,  especially  if you don't have access to a gym.  Bottom line is,  you just need to be a little more motivated and find things you can do at your house or in your garage. Set realistic goals for yourself each week and have a schedule that you plan to follow each day. Your schedule doesn't have to be crazy but at least doing push ups, pull ups and sit ups  each morning and evening will go a long way when you get back on the bike.  A cheap  jump rope in a small open space  is great for cardio and timing. The more efficient  you get with the jump rope the more cardio you will get out of it  as you will not have to stop and start back up as much. Each week you should try to make it a little tougher and set your goals higher. Download or pick up  a  good Yoga video as well that you can do in the warm comfort of your home.  You can be as creative as you want to be when you are motivated.   Don't use weather as an excuse for being lazy. Before you know it the snow will be melting and it will be time to get back on your bike.

STARTING OFF THE GRATES

A lot of the same things you focus on with regular starts are going to carry over into starting off the grates. Tight legs, not over reacting when you take off, focusing on keeping your eyes in the first turn and making sure you load the front end,  getting the slack out of the chain helping to be more consistent with your clutch release.  The grates are just going to take out some of the variables like how deep the ruts are coming out and over the gate and is the dirt tacky or slick.

We originally saw the grates at the Red Bull straight Rhythm a few years back. Since then they have added the grates to the GPs and now Sx for 2018. They also had them at the Winter Olympics Amateur National this year. We don't know if we will start seeing it a lot more at the amateur events or not yet but only time will tell. One of the first things you are usually going to want to do is drop your holeshot device down lower to put a little more wait on the front. You will get more traction coming out of the gate making it easier for your front end to come up. You shouldn't really have to worry too much about wheel spin,  although I saw a few people spin off gates at Winter Olympics, so it is possible. When it was damp and there was moisture on the tires and grates, it was more likely to happen.  We actually watered the grates at MTF and there was no wheel spin. The only thing we can think is when you had the combination of wet grates and wet tires I saw a few riders spin off the gates. It is important to clean off the grate as much as possible as loose dirt can cause you to get wheel spin or to be inconsistent.

Military Appreciation Camp

For the last 9 years it has been our privilege to offer a free Military Appreciation Camp as a way for active duty or retired military families, often separated by deployments, to receive quality riding instruction.

This year's camp will be held April 5-7, 2018.

The two day camp (check in late afternoon of the 5th) is open to any active duty or retired military service member and their immediate family with priority given to those who have not previously attended.

Riders will receive two full days of on track riding instruction in starts, turns, braking, whoops, rollers and jumping. Riders will be grouped according to bike size and skill level.

         SX CHANGES FOR 2018

The new year is here and that means it is time for a new season of SX. Everyone is getting excited to see what will happen. People are wondering,  will Ken Roczen be as good as he once was,  will Eli Tomac be able to take down Marvin Musquin that has been on fire this off season since winning the Million at Monster Cup,  how will Justin Barcia do on Factory Yamaha,  will there be a sleeper that surprises everyone? So many questions  until the gate drops at Anahiem 1 January 6th.
We will also see some changes this year in Sx.  The points system will be different from previous years. The 450 riders will only have a qualifier and LCQ instead of a semi  to make the Main event. They will have a three race Triple crown,  hosted at Anaheim 2, Atlanta and Minneapolis where both classes will have three main events instead of one. There will be two East/West shootouts at Indianapolis and Las Vegas. They will also be adding amateur racing at four events the Sunday following the Pro SX  racing at  Anahiem 2- Jan 21,  Glenndale AZ- Jan 28, Tampa FL- Feb 25,  Atlanta GA- March 4 . To see all the changes with more detail watch the video posted below.
