Winter Convocation
- Becoming Beloved Community
The Winter Convocation will held on
February 2-3, 2018 at
Kalahari Resort and Convention center in Sandusky. Heidi Kim, the Episcopal Church's Staff Officer for Racial Reconciliation, will lead us in exploring Becoming Beloved Community, the Episcopal Church's long-term commitment to racial healing, reconciliation, and justice. Becoming Beloved Community represents not so much a set of programs as a journey, a set of interrelated commitments around which we as Episcopalians may organize our many efforts to respond to racial injustice and grow a community of reconcilers, justice-makers, and healers. It builds around four long-term commitments: 1) Telling the Truth, 2) Proclaiming the Dream, 3) Repairing the Breach, and 4) Practicing the Way of Love.
Convocation Registration including reception (hot and cold hors d'oeuvres) and buffet lunch is $29.00 for an adult, $10.00 for a child (aged 12 years and younger) and $75.00 family rate (for a family living in the same household) on or before January 15, 2018.
Registration for an adult is $44.00, $15.00 for a child (aged 12 years and younger) and $110 for the family rate on or after January 16, 2018.
Bring six or more adults from your congregation and we will reimburse your parish half your adult registration fees! Have each person register on their own (and pay in full). After Convocation we will send your parish a reimbursement check. We will rely on you and your parish to take it from there. We know that isn't the easiest way to do this but for now, it's the only way we can make it happen! We'll work on a better way for next year.

2018 Absalom Jones Celebration
The Wilma Ruth Combs Chapter of the Union of Black Episcopalians and the Diocese of Ohio announce the 2018 Absalom Jones Celebration. The event will be held on Sunday, February 11 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Andrew's, Cleveland. Reception to follow. This is a diocesan-wide event and all are welcome to attend. The Rev. Debra Q. Bennett will be the preacher. The Rt. Rev. Mark Hollingsworth, Jr. and the Rt. Rev. Arthur B. Williams, Jr. will concelebrate. There will be a volunteer choir that will be conducted by Buck McDaniel. If you are interested in participating, this diocesan-wide choir will meet for rehearsals on February 6 at 7:00 p.m. and February 11 at 2:30 p.m.

An Epiphany Celebration
On January 6 from 7:00-10:00 p.m., St. Andrew, Mentor will enjoy a very special evening of Ojibwa/Chippewa prophesies with James B. Beard aka Noodin and Christopher Reynolds, songs, and stories which reveal a reality of love into which all peoples are ascending. Together we will celebrate the coming of light to our dark world and wonder at the revelations of this light which come to all peoples in the context of their own spiritual traditions.
The suggested donation is $10.00 per person.

Messiaen's The Nativity of the Lord
St. Paul's, Cleveland Heights, organist Karel Paukert will offer Olivier Messiaen's La Nativité du Seigneur (The Nativity of the Lord) at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday,
January 7. The cycle consists of nine movements: The Virgin and Child, The Shepherds, Eternal Purposes, The Word, The Children of God, The Angels, Jesus Suffers Torment, The Magi, and God among Us.
Mr. Paukert fell in love with the work when he was a student at Prague Conservatory, but because the score was unavailable to him, did not perform it until he came to America. He performed it annually during his tenure at the Cleveland Museum of Art, and has continued the tradition at St. Paul's since his retirement from the museum. The performance is free and open to the public.

St. John's, Youngstown - Boar's Head and Yule Log Festival
Tickets are now on sale for the 57th
annual Boar's Head & Yule Log Festival which will take
place on January 7, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. at St. John's, Youngstown.
Festival tickets are $6 each. A meal is available one hour before each performance. It is a traditional roast beef feast complete with wassail. Dinner tickets with preferred performance seating are available for $20.
The annual festival is a unique offering of praise to Jesus Christ at his Epiphany and features the Boar's Head & Yule Log Festival Choir & Brass. This year it will once again include bagpipers, drummers, and a cast of approximately 100 St. John's parishioners dressed in medieval costume as well as other surprises.

Brown Bag Concert
St. Paul's, Medina will be hosting a Brown Bag Concert on January 16 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. The concert will performed by David Gooding and the newest/oldest pipe organ in Medina. Bring your own brown bag lunch or purchase one for $5.00. Coffee and tea will be provided. Please call 330.725.4131 to reserve your lunch 24 hours in advance. Free will donations are appreciated.

St. Thomas, Berea is holding its Medieval Dinner Feast on Saturday,
January 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the Great Hall.
Come back with us to the Medieval Era when life was non-digital and communities gathered for big feasts at the local castle. We transform our Great Hall into a banquet lit by candlelight and each guest is provided a dagger and a spoon for the feast, as the fork had not been invented yet. The walls are decorated with the Coats of Arms of guests, there is music from Medieval era instruments and foods created from authentic medieval cookbooks (translated into modern English). Costumes are encouraged, but not necessary. We also have a large stock on hand, if you would like to borrow a costume for the evening. Tickets are $30 per person and must be purchased in advance. St. Paul's, Cleveland Heights will host singer-songwriter Chip Richter in concert January 26 at 7:00 p.m. in Tucker Hall. Known locally for his twenty years as artist-in-residence at Lakeside Chautauqua on Lake Erie, Richter has been compared to James Taylor and Phil Keaggy. His songs range from rollicking and fun to thoughtful, inspiring and very spiritual, capturing snapshots of "family life" that people of all ages will recognize. Richter has performed in churches, schools and theaters all over the country. He uses acoustic instruments, songs, humor, and audience participation to express his message of love to all who listen.
