COUNTY URGES CITIZENS TO TAKE PRECAUTIONS DURING COLD SNAP
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (January 4, 2018) - The National Weather Service is forecasting dangerously cold temperatures over the next couple of days. The Washington County Division of Emergency Services encourages citizens to plan accordingly.  In order to eliminate unnecessary telephone call volume to the 9-1-1 Center, citizens are advised to call 240-313-4600 to report NON-EMERGENCY issues.    
 
As the cold temperatures persist, we encourage citizens to seek refuge at the following places:
  • Hagerstown Rescue Mission, 125 North Prospect Street, Hagerstown (men only)

  • Soul Haven, 119 East Antietam Street, Hagerstown (Hours: 8 a.m. - 6 p.m., Thursday, Friday and Saturday; transportation from REACH at 8 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.; open Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with transportation from REACH at 8 a.m. and from Soul Haven at 2:30 p.m.)

  • Washington County Free Library, 100 South Potomac Street, Hagerstown, Maryland 

  • REACH Shelter, 140 West Franklin Street, Suite 300, Hagerstown; currently, for the cold spell, opening at 7 p.m. until 1 p.m. the next day, Monday through Friday; Saturday 7 p.m. - 7 a.m.; Sunday 3 p.m. - 7 a.m.

  • The Salvation Army, 534 West Franklin Street, Hagerstown (women and children only) 

  • Public buildings and public facilities should also be utilized for relief from the cold temperatures.
