FUNMI OLOPADE ON WHY BLACK WOMEN DIE MORE FREQUENTLY FROM BREAST CANCER
Funmi Olopade, Associate Dean for Global Health at the University of Chicago, was featured in a Crain's article about a research team, that Funmi is part of, which uses the genome to understand why black women die more frequently from breast cancer.

The team's initial findings, published in JAMA Oncology, could lead to more personalized risk assessment for black women and speed the development of new ways to diagnose and treat specific subtypes of aggressive breast cancers. The breakthrough research comes as University of Chicago Medicine is doubling down on its lucrative cancer specialty to boost its brand.

TERRI MASCHERIN PRO BONO CLIENT FREED AFTER 20 YEARS; CHARGES DROPPED BY PROSECUTORS
Terri Mascherin, Partner at Jenner & Block LLP, was highlighted in several media outlets recently for serving as an attorney that represented Adam Gray, who was released from prison last week after serving 20 years without parole for a 1993 arson that killed two people on the Southwest Side. There was no concrete evidence that he committed the crime and prosecutors agreed to drop the charges. A news conference was held at Jenner & Block on May 4, 2017.

Terri spent recent years fighting his convictions based on the unreliability of the scientific testimony at his trial. "I think that this is a classic case of how the authorities can fall into tunnel vision. They had a case here, where they're investigating a fire - which, it turns out, was probably an unfortunate accident," said Terri Mascherin. Read more...
