Did You Buy Your 2018 Dog Licenses Yet?
 
Pennsylvania State Law mandates that all dogs three months of age or older must be licensed annually.
 
Licenses are available for purchase at the Municipal Building, 600 Clearwater Road, Hershey (a $.50 administrative fee is charged), or on-line through PA Dog License (a $2.00 mailing fee applies).
 
The cost for dog licenses are as follows:
Male - $8.50, Neutered male - $6.50, Female - $8.50, Spayed female - $6.50, plus the applicable fees.
 
The cost for senior citizens (65 years old and older) dog licenses are as follows: Male - $6.50, Neutered male - $4.50, Female - $6.50, Spayed female - $4.50, plus the applicable fees.
 
Applications for lifetime dog licenses must be applied for at the Dauphin County Treasurer’s office. Instructions

Friends of the Hershey Public Library Present
Sunday, January 7 at 2:00 p.m.

Writer and scientist Scott Weidensaul, who has been exploring Alaska for more than 30 years, takes us to some of the most remote parts of this immense and wild state. He'll discuss the isolated Aleutian and Pribilof islands, native villages within sight of Russia, wilderness rivers on the North Slope, and breathtaking landscapes alive with birds and mammals. Hershey Area All Things Diversity Welcomes Television Producer and Screenwriter Joan Rater to Present on Creating an Inclusive Environment
 
Joan Rater will present Creating an Inclusive Environment for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Members on Monday, January 15, 2018, 5:30 to 7:15 p.m., at the Hershey Story Museum, located at 63 W. Chocolate Avenue.
 
Rater will share her experiences raising a transgender child with the hope that what she has learned will help to shape our dialogue for acceptance and understanding in the Hershey community.
 
After joining Grey’s Anatomy at the start of the second season with her writing partner and husband (Tony), Joan and Tony rose through the ranks and co-ran the show alongside creator Shonda Rhimes for 10 seasons. The Raters earned a WGA award for New Series in Television in 2005 for their work on Grey’s. They have also been nominated for two Emmys in 2006 and 2007, both for “Outstanding Drama Series.” Among other shows, Joan has also written for Law & Order: Trial By Jury as well as Madam Secretary.
 
The Hershey All Things Diversity educational sessions are organized by the Township, Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, The Hershey Company and Hershey Entertainment & Resorts.

A light supper and dessert will be provided to attendees. The sessions are free but seating is limited and advanceregistration is required.

Christmas Trees Will Be Collected Now Through January 19th

The Department of Public Works will pick up trees until Friday, January 19, 2018, weather permitting. Trees must be placed at the curb on streets and will not be collected in alleys. Trees can also be dropped off at the Recycling Center during operating hours, 650 Clearwater Road.
New Open Space for Teens

Open Space is new for teens in grade 6 and up after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Hershey Public Library, 701 Cocoa Avenue. Open Space will be offered on Tuesday, January 9 and Thursday, January 11. No registration is needed.

Teens can enjoy Play Station 4, use the library's wifi, read, do homework, chat and chill. It is not so much a program as a space for kids to relax and be safe in a teen friendly environment. Hershey Bears Game to Benefit THON™

The Hershey Bears and  THON™  will be coming together this year on January 6 for the first ever THON Hershey Bears Game. A portion of ticket sales purchased through this  link  will benefit THON.

THON is a student-run philanthropy committed to enhancing the lives of children and families impacted by childhood cancer. The mission is to provide emotional and financial support, spread awareness and ensure funding for critical research - all in pursuit of a cure.

Ticket prices are $20 for the 200 level and $26 for the 100 level. Tickets must be purchased through the link to have a portion of your sales benefit  THON™.
Hershey Horticulture Society Learns about Aquaponics

The Hershey Horticulture Society will hold their monthly meeting on Monday, January 8, 2018, at the Brownstone, 215 W. Governor Road, Hershey. The business meeting will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by lunch and the program, ‘Aquaponics’, at 1:00 p.m.

Crystal Huff, an Agricultural Specialist for INTAG, will tell us how Aquaponic Systems can be used to produce vegetables, fruits and fish. She will also introduce the ‘School to Table’ program where high school students grow vegetables and greens in an aquaponic system and market to local restaurants.

Hershey Entertainment and Resorts Hosts Job Fair

Hershey Entertainment and Resorts is hosting a job fair for Hersheypark and the Giant Center on January 9, 2018 for Springtime In The Park, Hersheypark's summer season, Giant Center events, and Hershey Bears Hockey.

The fair will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Giant Center.

Women's Civic Club of Hershey Schedules Meeting

The Women’s Civic Club of Hershey will meet on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at the Hershey Plaza Apartments, 215 W. Chocolate Avenue, first floor, at 7:00 p.m. Former Rabbi Lynn Pell, who is now a financial planner, will educate the audience on how our financial and spiritual lives are connected. All women 18 years and older are invited to come and see what the club is about.
Hershey Area Neighbors and Newcomer Club Invites You to Their Meeting

The Hershey Area Neighbors and Newcomers Club will meet at the Hershey Public Library, 701 Cocoa Avenue, on Thursday, January 11, at 9:45 a.m.

Ben Nolt from Capital Area Therapeutic Riding Association (CATRA) will be the speaker. CATRA offers Capital residents with special needs a therapeutic riding experience. Guests are encouraged to attend and join. Contact Kathy at 717-412-4726, or Suzette at 717-861-4660 for more information.
Hershey Community Chorus to Hold Open House

The Hershey Community Chorus will host an open house on Monday, January 15, 2018, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the Community Room on the lower level of The Hershey-Derry Township Historical Society Building located at 40 Northeast Drive, Hershey. This is an opportunity for the public to learn more about the Chorus and to meet some of the current members. Light refreshments will be served. 

The Hershey Community Chorus has been entertaining Hershey and the surrounding communities for over 80 years, since 1934. Each year the Chorus presents at two major concerts, one for Christmas and the other in the spring in addition to other appearances in Hershey and the surrounding communities. Hershey Community Chorus archive files and recordings of previous concerts will be on display.

Registration for membership in the Chorus will be available and new members in all voice parts are extremely welcome. The Chorus rehearses on Monday evenings from 7:00 to 9:15 p.m. at The Hershey Free Church located at 330 Hilltop Road, Hummelstown.
