Are You Ready? Electronic Log Devices (ELD) Important Dates:

AOBRD (automatic on-board recording devices)  are grandfathered through Dec 16, 2019 if installed by Dec 18, 2017.  After Dec 18, 2017, only ELD-compliant devices can be installed.

February 16, 2016 - December 18, 2017:  the two-year period following the publication of the ELD Mandate rule.  D uring this time, carriers and drivers subject to the rule should prepare to comply, and may voluntarily use ELDs. AOBRD or ELD devices may be installed.

December 18, 2017 - December 15, 2019: the two-year period from the compliance date to the full compliance phase.   All Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMV's) must have an AOBRD (installed prior to December 18, 2017) or a certified registered ELD installed. Only ELD devices may be installed from this point on.

December 16, 2019:  all CMV's must use certified, registered ELDs that comply with requirements of the ELD mandate.  All devices must be ELD compliant.

Industry News

The Federal Highway Administration is accepting public comments through May 30th on a 2015 requirement that tolling authorities treat over-the-road buses the same as they do public-transit buses. Read more from Bus & Motorcoach News.

CVSA's Annual Roadcheck takes place June 6-8.  During the three-day targeted enforcement program, approximately 17 trucks and buses will be inspected every 60 seconds across North America.  Learn more from CVSA.

DOT reversed a Federal Register proposal which originated during President Obama's term which would require all states to conduct a mandatory passenger-carrying commercial motor vehicle inspection annually. Read more from The Hill.

The United Motorcoach Association (UMA) announced their President and CEO, Stacey Tetschner.  Mr. Tetscher will begin June 5th.  UMA's Interim President and CEO, Steven C. Klika, will remain in place through the transition.   Read more from UMA.

In late April and in early May, both United Motorcoach Association (UMA) and American Bus Association (ABA) members traveled to Capitol Hill in Washington DC for the annual "Fly-In" events.  The annual events are for opportunities to meet with elected legislative officials and staff to discuss the important issues facing the motorcoach, travel and tourism industries today.  GNJMA Board Members Tim Stout of Stout's Transportation and Tom JeBran of Trans-Bridge Lines attended the national association events.
