Building Watershed Resiliency in the Upper Delaware River Region

The impacts of climate change and dramatically shifting weather patterns on water resources, public infrastructure, and communities are posing new challenges for watershed management in the Upper Delaware River region.

This one-day workshop is designed for municipal officials, planners, highway managers, and other water resource professionals who are interested in developing new strategies to adapt to these impacts and build more resilient communities.

Participants will gain an understanding about how increased precipitation, flooding, and drought conditions are affecting local water resources, people, communities, and wildlife.

Examples of innovative approaches to stream restoration, green infrastructure, and flood prevention and emergency response will illustrate how communities in our region are getting prepared for climate change impacts.

A classroom session in the morning will be followed by an afternoon field trip to the Neversink Preserve for a firsthand view of how a mature floodplain forest and a floodplain restoration project are helping improve climate resiliency along the Neversink River in Orange County, NY.
