Snowshoe Rangers at the Wentworth House
Saturday and Sunday, January 13th and 14th, 10am - 4pm Saturday; 9am - 2pm Sunday
Water Street, Rollinsford
Meet Captain John Harmon's Snowshoe Company of Rangers, a group of historical reenactors who portray the soldiers who patrolled the New England frontier during the 1740s and 1750s. Snowshoe companies were formed to patrol the colonial frontier during the long winters and protect the northern settlements from attack by the French and their Native American allies. Members of Harmon's Company will be in residence at the Wentworth House and will demonstrate the use of flintlock muskets and traditional snowshoes, plus the clothing, equipment and tactics used by the frontier militia. Visitors may also take a tour of the house; observe gunsmith Steve Woodman and horner Chuck Walker as they practice their trades; warm up by the hearth and watch food being prepared in 18th century fashion; and learn about other aspects of winter life in colonial New England. Admission is $5 for adults; free for children and ARCH members.

January Sewing and Computer Classes at Dover Adult Learning Center
Get ready for the new year by signing up now for January classes at Dover Adult Learning Center! Our newly-listed "Step into Sewing" class is an 8-hour course that will teach you all about the sewing machine, basic stitches, basic sewing techniques, and how to identify notions that you will need. We have three time/date options: Monday evenings, January 8-February 5, 6:00-8:00pm; Thursday mornings, January 11-February 1, 8:00-10:00am; or Saturdays, January 13 & 20, 8:00am-12:00pm. (In order to best meet all the student needs, this series will be held at The Sewing Tree studio in Dover.) Join us in helping to prevent our young people from getting involved in abusive relationships! We are looking for you to be our corporate partner In an educational video designed to help high school and college aged people avoid abusive relationships.
Sweaty Turtle Entertainment has been working with a local clinical psychologist whose expertise is in the treatment of survivors of domestic and sexual abuse, to craft a script showing some warning signs of a controlling and abusive relationship. This video project will be provided to schools, domestic violence support groups and others for use in their education and health programs throughout New Hampshire and beyond. Creative Director, Rick Dumont, has worked with survivors and victims for more than 24 years and has put together a team of some of the finest young performers in New England to bring this project to life.
