(Below is an excerpt from Jewel's book "Shift Happens"....)
Listen to the excuses you give to others and to yourself. Procrastinators are good
self con-artists
because they can sell themselves a great lie to justify avoiding critical action. They avoid taking action by telling themselves...
"I'll do it tomorrow"
"I do my best work late at night, I'll do it then."
"I'll call them just as soon as I think of something clever to say."
"I'll need to paint and get new furniture before inviting family and friends over."
"There's no need in taking that test again, I know I'll just fail and be embarrassed again."
"If I'm late, they won't mind."
"If I can't finish it, I'm sure someone will help me."
"I can't do it now. I need to wait until everyone supports and believes in me. I don't handle confusion and confrontation well. It's best to wait until everyone is on board with me."
Procrastination is a thief that steals your blessings, money, time, peace of mind, opportunities, health and integrity. Do the unpleasant tasks first and get them out of the way.
If you work better in solitude, don't be afraid to ask family, friends or co-workers for their support by honoring your privacy to work on a project. It's better to communicate your needs than to suffer from frustration, stagnation and moodiness.
Accept the fact that you will never be "in the mood" to do some things. Maturity and discipline are evident when you rise above ambivalent feelings and take responsibility, regardless of how tempting it is to wait until tomorrow. (Get your copy of this popular book on the website
