After 49 Years, Ron Chevalier Retires From Being Building Engineer of 30 Federal St.

Friends, family and tenants of 30 Federal St., came together on May 3rd to celebrate Ron Chevalier, who's been the building's engineer since 1968.

"I've never been here when Ronnie's not been here," said Katharine Manning, financial consultant for Charles Schwab, a 13-year tenant of the building. "I'm always cold and I'm always warm. I can call Ronnie and he'll fix it. He's part of my life at work. It's family."

Manning's sentiments were echoed by numerous current tenants and former tenants, some of who left the building more than a decade ago, but came back to show their appreciation of Chevalier.

Chevalier was given numerous gifts, as well as a cake during his retirement party. He said he was surprised invitations were sent out for the party by building owner Preotle, Lane & Associates, LTD.

While brimming with a smile from ear-to-ear, Chevalier said the job hasn't changed much since 1968. "It's about the same. Everyone's a charm. It's the people (I like). Always the people. They were always lovely."

As for advice, Chevalier said, "Don't put off what can be done today. Do it today or don't do it all."

Now retired, he said he will spend more time with his daughter, visit Maine and other things he hasn't had the time to do.

Recently, Ambassadors helped a few Peabody Public School students be reunited with their backpacks, and we wanted to share a thank you letter we received. You're welcome to email us at [email protected], too.

"Thank you for being great role models for our kids regarding honor, integrity and character (not to mention kindness) with the return of our students' backpacks, cameras and cash. As superintendent of schools I cannot thank you enough for living what we teach. Again, on behalf of the Peabody School Committee, its chair Mayor Ted Bettencourt, and myself, thank you," emailed Herbert W. Levine, Ph.D, superintendent of Peabody Public Schools.
