The Decoder
             Mother's Day Edition: May 2017

Message from the Executive Director

I recently had the opportunity to attend a National Forum on Literacy and Poverty offered by  Frontier College . The session provided a great reminder of the way literacy is fundamental to increasing the conditions that provide people with the means to a better life!

Decoda is proud of our long-standing community literacy outreach network, supported through funds provided by the BC Ministry of Education.

Mother's Story: Without the schooling I was stuck

Samantha Bilokraly was a stay at home mom for five years. Whe wanted to start a career, get out of the house and make her family a two-income household. She says, "It is hard to live off one income and daycare is so expensive. Without the schooling I was stuck."

This year, Samantha began attending Together to Learn to upgrade her high school English and further her education. She says, "The program was perfect ...".

In honour of mothers and grandmothers: Sarah joins The 400 Club

Three generations of women in Sarah's family have all shared the same belief that literacy is important to everyone.

"Literacy is like good health. You are always better off having it. It makes such a difference to be able to read and to navigate the world," says Sarah, who recently joined The 400 Club and is providing support to Decoda Literacy Foundation through a monthly donation.

The 400 Club: Your invitation to join!

Small donations can make a big difference when many caring people come together.  D ecoda Literacy Solutions is pleased to announce the launch of The 400 Club.

The name of our monthly giving club reflects the number of communities Decoda supports each year. It also represents the number of caring people who could make an incredible difference.
