March 2018 Joint Meeting with SAME - US 35 Superstreet Project in Beavercreek Township

Topic:  US 35 Superstreet Project in Beavercreek Township

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) intends to improve the congestion and safety at the intersections of U.S. 35 at Factory Road and U.S. 35 at Orchard Lane by constructing new, innovative intersections called Superstreets. The relocation and extension of Shakertown Road will also occur simultaneously by the City of Beavercreek.

Increased development in the Beavercreek Area has led to an increase in traffic congestion on US-35 near the Factory and Orchard Lane intersections. Because further development is expected, the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission and ODOT collaborated to determine a solution to the US-35 congestion. Superstreets, like the SR-4 Bypass Superstreets in Butler County, were proposed to improve safety and travel efficiency.

A Superstreet is a non-traditional, signalized intersection that can provide more capacity than a traditional traffic signal. It does not allow side street traffic to turn left or to go straight through the main intersection. These movements instead turn right and do a legal U-turn at a nearby signal to get to their desired path.
