Counseling Corner
Each year, I am required to teach lessons from our Diocese curriculum guide to educate our students on safety awareness.  We use a program called, "Keeping Our Promises- For the Sake of God's Children".  Over the next month, I will be in each grade focusing on Trusted Adults, Appropriate Boundaries, Safe Environments, Good Touch/Bad Touch, and Secrets.  I will use age appropriate lessons while speaking with our children.  I strongly encourage the children to talk more about this at home with their parents/guardians.  Parents, please never hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about the material we discuss.  [email protected]

This past week, I met with Pre-4, K and 1st grade.  In these grades I discussed trusted adults, appropriate boundaries, strangers, safe-touch, secrets and being in charge of our bodies.  I stressed the need to talk with trusted adults and the need to have safety talk with parents, often.  We read a book, "No, Go, Tell, Keeping Our Kids Safe".  This book is written by a local author, Liz Colender.  Parents of the younger children, we take for granted the phone numbers stored in our phones.  It is so important that your child memorizes your cell phone numbers!  Please talk with your children about these topics!  Below is a link from Parent Magazine with tips on talking to our children about this topic.

School Wide Community Service Project

Health Suite News

Dear Parents:

The Religious Education curriculum for our Catholic Diocese of WilmingtonBecoming Disciples, includes instruction for students in the area of family life and that includes human reproduction.  On Monday, May 15th, our students in 5th grade will be taught the Family Life unit of instruction as part of their religious education.  The instruction in the area of human reproduction will be provided by our school nurse, Mrs. Carlson for the girls and Dr. Cory Carpenter for the boys.  The curriculum that will be taught has been approved by the Diocese and the National Conference of Catholic Bishops and the materials being used are those associated with our Religious Education textbook.

Please understand that the focus of the instruction is found in the Church's teaching that our bodies are temples of God's love and that we are obligated to treat our bodies and the bodies of others with respect and reverence. Human reproductive organs are explained as the means by which love is shared in a marital relationship. Abstinence, until marriage, is taught as our obligation to show respect for our bodies and the bodies of others. The birth process is explained as the culmination of God's love for us, His people. This is an excellent instructional program that is infused with reference to Sacred Scripture and the Church's teachings on chastity and modesty. The specific materials to be used are available for your review and inspection in the office.

Please note: Parents will receive two copies of the parental permission form, one to keep at home and one to be returned to school by May 8th.

What - Wednesday Walk With Jesus
When - Every Wednesday in Lent beginning on Ash Wednesday from 3:00-5:00 p.m.
Where - The church aisles of St. John Neumann will be our labyrinth as we walk side by side with Jesus opening our hearts to Him alone.
Why - Want to walk in with your issues and walk out with new direction?
How - Labyrinth walking is one of the simplest forms of focused meditation.
A labyrinth is an important tool that can offer a spiritual awakening. It is a help in discovering what God is calling us to do with our lives and depending on Him rather than depending on ourselves, things and people outside.
**Bring your children if you'd like so that they too may walk, do their homework, or watch a video in the library.

St. Jude the Apostle
The Lamb's Supper: The Mass as Heaven on Earth by Scott Hahn is the May selection of the Parish Book Club. A discussion of the book will take place in the Religious Education Center on Wednesday, May 10 at 2 p.m. Bestselling author Scott Hahn sheds new light on the Mass, offering readers a deeper appreciation of the most familiar of Catholic rituals. The Lamb's Supper reveals a long-lost secret of the Church: The early Christians' key to understanding the mysteries of the Mass was the New Testament Book of Revelation. Scott Hahn's book helps readers see the Mass with new eyes, pray the liturgy with a renewed heart, and enter into the Mass more fully and enthusiastically than ever before.

Copies of this book are available in the parish library as well as on Amazon.com. The parish library is in the Religious Education Center, and open to parishioners Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. as well as during Religious Education classes on Sundays, 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and again from 5:30 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. For further information, contact the Religious Education Office, 644-7413.

Vision Statement

Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic School provides rigorous and technologically relevant instruction that is intentionally integrated with Catholic identity.  Together, as Pastors, administrators, teachers and parents, we nurture the development of the mind, the body, and the soul, in each of our students.  Our students are able to make sound decisions based upon the teachings of Jesus Christ and modeled upon the lives of the saints.  As a faith and learning community, we teach students a passion for the truth and a love for discovery and knowledge. Our students are prepared to relate their Catholic faith to their culture and actively live their faith as members of the greater community.
