Words from the Executive Director
I have heard and seen proof of the abundant sowing of our churches. New record highs on Resurrection Sunday-unfortunate record lows the week after also reported by many.  (Be of good cheer-Next year Easter Sunday and spring break weekend touch.) In the last few weeks, I have been able to train, disciple and assist in outreaches with several local churches. In fact, I just finished a meeting with one hard working, energetic and evangelistic pastor of 35 each week.  We talked about systems, process, weekly rhythm and intentionality.  Our conversation reminded and even convicted me of my own sin of busyness.  Mary and Martha's story of serving and sitting at the feet of Jesus rises up from the stored recesses in my memory bank.  I can say thank you Lord!  For caring, for calling, and for drawing us back to relationship!

The foundation for the work we do is Jesus!  I am thankful He has given us His Word!  The work of His church should be built on biblical foundations.  Our society has been blessed by explorers, artists, writers, politicians, educators and ministers who found insight and inspiration from the Bible.  The Ten Commandments shaped many of our laws, the wisdom of His Word shaped our forefathers thoughts and the foundation of our society.  Our churches find our marching orders from His Word.
As we read Paul's epistles to the first century churches, the common themes heard are:
  • Love God
  • Love your neighbor
  • Love one another
Ephesians 4:11-12 lays it out for us: leaders equip God's people to serve others, thus helping each other grow until the whole church begins to look and act like Jesus.

The church is the body of Christ whose sole purpose for existing is to love and adore God with all its heart, mind, soul and strength, and to help each other, both lost people and believers, to grow up together in Christ as we emulate the model and become reproducing disciple-making missionaries.

There are several great opportunities to help us get back to the basics in the next season.   See some of the workshops and events in this newsletter and make a commitment to attend.  Making reproducing disciples is hard intentional work, but it is what Jesus modeled for us.   It is what He promised His presence and power to accomplish.

Imagine a bounce house-the fan in the backdrop keeps enough air for kids to bounce, play and have the fun inside.  As long as the fan continues to work-round and round and round-the house stays inflated, it stays standing up.  If the fan stops-the fun stops.  The building collapses, the house loses the bounce.
Are you thankful that Jesus said He would "build the church?"  The glorious gospel's ability to refresh, refuel and resurrect is unlimited.  Abide in Him!

Storehouse Ministries

May is fast approaching, which means the largest single day food drive in the country is just around the corner.  This is the annual Stamp Out Hunger Postal Carriers Food Drive. On Saturday, May 13 volunteers need to meet at 900 Roswell Street from 4:00 p.m. until dark to assist in loading, unloading and sorting food from the post office.  We will also need volunteers to check dates on the food products.  Please contact Karen Stevens at (770) 422-3347, ext. 210 if you are interested in volunteering or have a group that would like to help.  You may also email Karen at storehouse@noondayba.org.

From January through March 2017, Storehouse Ministries has distributed 1129 boxes of food (58,000 pounds of food), which assisted 1016 households (or 2700 individuals) which included 886 children.  In addition, 1,940 sack lunches were distributed. Storehouse was blessed to have 860 hours of volunteer service during these months.

Food donations and the generous monetary donations to the Bill Rogers Hunger Fund continue to enable us to minister to many in our community. Noonday churches may be involved by giving food donations, giving monetary donations  and through  volunteering.  Currently, 19 churches are assisting with distribution of food and 7 churches are assisting with financial requests.
Noonday's Media Center Feature: The Deacon I Want to Be
The Deacon I Want To Be by Johnny Hunt takes a look at the deacon and his worthiness, his work, his wife, his worship, and his witness. The 6-session, video-based study helps current and prospective deacons grow spiritually and serve faithfully in the local church. It also helps deacons to understand the qualifications for serving, the importance of their call, and how to work with other deacons harmoniously.
With this Bible study kit you now have the option of viewing this at no charge on your smart television, tablet, and phone.  To be able to have access to this material through your device, contact Sheryl Dean at the Noonday office for specific instructions.
Did you know?

CommunityIMPACT

New Life Church  was working in their community on Saturday, April 15 in their Love this City  campaign.  They are partnering with Mission Dawgs, a ministry that focuses on the direct needs of the homeless community within the City of Marietta.  Rev. Grayson Jones, pastor of New Life Church, said, "I quickly was able to see the need for us to reach beyond the four walls and to be the hands and feet of Jesus within our community."

To prepare for their outreach event, their women's ministry packed purses with feminine products for the homeless women.  This was a perfect way to give these women some of their dignity back.  The church also made small care bags with toiletries and everyday items that the homeless will need.  They are also working on a possible shuttle service to bring them in for Sunday morning services.

During this most recent event they offered a pancake breakfast for the homeless in their community.  This was the church's opportunity to feed them physically and spiritually.
Rev. Grayson Jones shared Christ to the group.

As a church, they remember what Jesus said, "...'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me,'" Matthew 25:40.  In thinking of the resurrection and all that Jesus did, New Life Church decided to forego the traditional Easter Egg Hunt and reach out to those in need.

New Life Church truly wants to be a city on a hill--a light for all to see.  They have three simple things that define who and what they want to be in their community:

A lighthouse for the lost
A spiritual hospital for the sick
A launching pad for those led  by God

Hurt Road Baptist Church WMU

Hurt Road Baptist Church has a group of people who have been meeting on Wednesday mornings since October 2016 to give back to their community in a very unique way.  Patti Barnett, the original organizer of the "Bag Ladies," as they have named themselves, has been looking for a way to give back to her community for some time and now she has found it.  Ms. Barnett is spearheading an initiative to crochet bedrolls made out of plastic shopping bags and distribute these bedrolls to homeless individuals in the Smyrna/Marietta area.  These "Bag Ladies" have found a way to keep these bags out of the landfill that would otherwise go to waste.

Patti Barnett
Ms. Barnett attends Hurt Road Baptist Church in Smyrna and has included many in her church in the effort.  The Women's Missionary Union (WMU) group has been the biggest driver in this initiative.    Making these mats is not hard to do at all.  It just takes commitment.  Each mat requires about 1200 bags, but with so many people helping, it really isn't as daunting as it sounds.  Overall this Hurt Road team has had about 25 people helping each week on average.

It has been really surprising at times with the number of bags that have been donated, but with the help of
A recipient of a mat
volunteers, the numbers aren't too overwhelming.  Besides the volunteers from her church, Ms. Barnett has made trips to train others how to make these mats for the homeless.  She has trained a school and a church in the Covington area, and also trained a group of women at another local congregation, and two troops from the Girl Scouts of America.  She has even gotten the support of some local businesses that have begun to collect bags for her to use.

If you, or your church group, would like to find out more information regarding this project you can call the office at Hurt Road Baptist Church at (770) 435-8164.

Dr. Johnny Hunt is partnering with the North American Mission Board and is hosting a one-day leadership conference based on exciting church growth principles he has taught and seen implemented across the country and around the world. The first session will cover "Moving Beyond the Wall." This will deal with defining a plateau, looking at barriers to growth, and what it takes to see growth happen. The second session is "Leadership That Lasts," which will examine what a leader must be to lead others. It's about being decisive and giving clear biblical direction.
This event is on Thursday, May 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  To register, click HERE.  The cost for this event is $15.00.  This event will be held at the Georgia Baptist Missions & Ministry Center in Duluth.  Please contact  Loretta Crow if you have any questions.

The Association is supported by gifts from member churches to Association Missions and does not receive support from the Cooperative Program gifts given by churches to the Georgia Baptist Convention and Southern Baptist Convention.  Noonday churches that are giving faithfully are encouraged to continue their support.  Churches that have decreased their giving are encouraged to prayerfully reconsider their support for Association Missions.  Churches that are presently not giving are asked to consider contributing some amount to the ministry of strengthening churches and starting new churches as we work together to impact lostness in our mission field and nation.
