VL Announces New Pre-Paid Tuition Program
Purchase Future Tuition at Today's Rates!  Each year both the need for and cost of Christian education increases. Valley Lutheran High School provides students with an exemplary Christian education designed to prepare them to impact the world by nurturing faith, educating minds and cultivating leaders. To assist parents in their financial planning, Valley Lutheran High School is announcing a Pre-Paid Tuition Program giving families the opportunity to pre-pay future tuition at the current tuition rate.

For example:  You have a 9th grader entering Valley Lutheran High School in August of 2017. You may not only pay the tuition for her 9th grade year but you can also pay her tuition for as many of her four years as you would like at the current rate.

Or, a  generous friend or relative might celebrate a child's birthday with a gift of tuition at Valley Lutheran purchased at the current rate although it may be several years before the child attends Valley Lutheran.

The upcoming 2017-2018 school year is the final year for the annual pre-payment discount for tuition that is paid in full prior to the start of school. Future years of tuition paid at today's rates do not include the annual pre-payment discount. This year pre-paid tuition will be accepted until the first day of classes on August 23.  In the future, all pre-paid tuition must be purchased before August 1.

Vaccines Recommended For Those In Residence Halls
The Saginaw County Department of Public Health recommends all first-year students living in residence halls be immunized against meningococcal disease. Additionally, there is a recommendation for meningococcal vaccination for all adolescents 11-12 and 16-18 years of age.  Though meningitis is rare, its flu-like symptoms make diagnosis difficult. If not treated early, meningitis can lead to swelling of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal column as well as severe and permanent disabilities such as hearing loss, brain damage, seizures, limb amputation, and even death.  For more information, contact the SCDPH Immunization Program at 989-758-3840 and /or consult your child's primary care provider.

Guidance Corner
13 REASONS WHY
This book turned Netflix series has been gaining a lot of attention in the past few weeks. The story outlines the thirteen different reasons why a young lady chooses to end her own life - many of which are concerning or mature in nature. The Netflix series has been described as graphic and inappropriate for young viewers. If you or your student choose to watch the series or read the book, I encourage you to have open and honest discussions about the content and any thoughts or emotions that might arise from viewing this content. As always, Mrs. Mueller is available to talk with students and/or parents who may have concerns.

FINAL TRANSCRIPTS
Seniors enrolling in a college or university next year will need to request their final transcripts to be sent after graduation. These are only sent to the school you will attend in the fall, and are seen as a step in the final enrollment process. Directions for requesting these through Parchment can be found here. You can do this any time you are ready - just request that your transcript be held for grades.

SUMMER CAMP OPPORTUNITIES
Interested in culinary arts? The science behind making ice cream? Building houses or operating heavy equipment? Midland will be hosting three unique day camps this summer for high school students interested in these areas. The deadline to register is Friday, May 26th. See Mrs. Mueller for more information and an application!

DUAL ENROLLMENT FOR 2017-2018
Students intending to take Dual Enrollment courses next year, either through Delta College or CUAA, should be actively working on the paperwork necessary for their college applications and registrations. Checklists for this entire process are available on Mrs. Mueller's door. We encourage students to take the lead in this process!

AP CONTRACTS & TEST FEES
Students requesting an AP course for their 2017-2018 schedule should be completing an AP Course Contract, available on Mrs. Mueller's door. The contract is the only thing due at this time - testing fees for the AP Exam will be collected in the fall when test costs are released.
