2017 Northwestern Year in Review

MEM Alum Brings Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) Experience to the Classroom
IoT (Internet of Things) has an enormous market potential of billions of connected devices generating Trillions in revenues. IoT will change industries and transform the way we work and live. Industrial companies are already pivoting from Products to Services leveraging IoT technologies - this digital transformation is more broadly called  the Industrial IoT or Industrial Internet
 
Thanks to MEM Alum and Industry Advisory Board member, Shahid Ahmed, the MEM program continues to leverage the knowledge and experience of its alumni to provide workshops and enhance the curriculum.  In Winter 2018 Shahid will be teaching a Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) non-credit, pilot course in order to refine the content and develop hands-on labs to establish a future course option for the Northwestern MEM curriculum. The course aims to equip students with an in-depth understanding of industry dynamics, technology architecture, and the IIoT ecosystem.  Read more on the MEM website. 
 
Shahid Ahmed is currently an advisor to several early stage firms focused on the telecom, IoT and digital sectors helping entrepreneurs turn innovative ideas into world class companies.  Shahid was previously a Partner at PwC responsible for several digital practices including Emerging Technologies, IoT and Data & Analytics. Prior to joining PwC, Shahid was a Managing Director with Accenture, where he was responsible for Accenture's North America Telecommunications $1B+ business.  
Save the Date! MEM 40th Anniversary Event on June 30, 2018 
 Anniversary Event Held in Conjunction with TEMSCON 2018 
 
On  June 30, 2018  MEM will celebrate its 40th  anniversary with a networking event to be held in Evanston.  This will be held in conjunction with the IEEE Technology and Engineering Management Society (TEMS) International Conference - TEMSCON 2018  - also to be held in Evanston from June 27 to July 1. The conference provides studies on the concepts, theories and best practices in the field of technology management, with a particular focus on disruptive technologies.

Join MEM for a Talk with Tugrul Daim
 
 
J oin MEM on Friday, January 26th starting at 6:00 PM for a conversation with Tugrul Daim, Professor and Director of Technology Management Doctoral Program in the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science at Portland State University. Tugrul will deliver a talk on Technology Management and Multiple Perspectives with Recent Research and Applications. 
 
We are witnessing the dawn of new business giants which were able to match technological innovations with innovations in other perspectives changing from social to environmental. This talk will provide applications of technology management models with multiple perspectives in sectors ranging from clean energy to information technology. Funding and support for these applications was provided by several agencies including US Dept of Energy, National Science Foundation, Intel Corporation, Electric Power Research Institute and Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission. The results were published in journals including Technological Forecasting and Social Change, Research and Development Management, Sustainable Energy Technologies and Assessments, Journal of High Technology Management Research, Technology Analysis and Strategic Management.

Monthly Feature Recognizing Our Amazing Students
 
Xiaohu Lei is a current fulltime MEM student originally from Shanghai, China. He earned his Degree in Structure Engineering from Tongji University in China. Before he started the MEM Program, he worked as a structural engineer at Tongji Architectural Design (Group) Co., Ltd. (TJAD) for four and a half years, having participated in numerous landmark projects, such as Shanghai Tower and Shanghai Disneyland. Xiaohu loves to play tennis, roller skating and video games. Also, he enjoys all kinds of spicy Chinese cuisine and especially hot pot.  We have asked Xiaohu to share what MEM experience has meant to him.  Read more  about Xiaohu's background and thoughts on the MEM blog.
